No "Vivid" and "Time's up" have Muzz Skillings on bass, not Doug Wimbish, therefor they won't get you anywhere if you want to find out about Wimbish' playing.
@FatherRikhi6 жыл бұрын
Wimbish started with the Sugarhill Gang- so that phenomenally powerful playing on "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash- that's him (I confirmed it by asking him in person) - he worked with Gary Clail and the On U Sound System in UK. That stuff I'd need to relisten to but was important to me at the time- he did a lot of sideman stuff for big names that I know almost nothing about..... his range of work is pretty encyclopedic.

Normal bass players give bad names to guys that can go off with only a bass like this man! I need to get some pigment in my skin, black guys have a stranglehold on beats and bass playing.

For Supro dude - staring into the camera intently makes you come across all snake oily.

One of the most versatile bassists out there. Can play anything. It even sounds like he's using a pick (especially w the chords) when he's rockin right the F out! I'm convinced that he doesn't need a pick when he's driving hard w his RH.
@fanoboss7 жыл бұрын
... i didn't like the affected tone
@pd41657 жыл бұрын
When you buy the bass don't bother buying the effect. Job done! HTH.
@davidallen3467 жыл бұрын
Didn't expect him to a play a short scale bass, usually his basses have 24 frets
@bryanleigh64976 жыл бұрын
Yeah, money caused that to happen.

If you read the post I originally had here, ignore it. This bass is not from the "Huntington" company that makes really cheap guitars and basses. Perhaps the chosen name for this bass is a bit unfortunate because it could lead to confusion with the budget guitar company called Huntington. Different altogether. So, now that I know this bass is not from that budget company, I'll have to check one out. I'm a big fan of short scales and play them about 80% of the time (and 15% on long scales and 5% on upright).

Back in 2001, I saw Living Colour live and it was during the time that Doug was endorsing Ibanez and had a signature model. So when the basses came out, I was amped, eager to find out how they would perform. The first case is opened and out comes his orange Spector four string and I go "Fair enough, he has played that one for such a long time." so the second case come up and out comes his blue Spector five string and from the thrird case comes, you guessed it: ANOTHER SPECTOR! That's when I realized that maybe, just maybe it wasn't all smooth sailing between Doug and Ibanez.
@mattiasjp7 жыл бұрын
RastaSaiyaman I think those Ibanezes are really hard to come by. I think he has played Spectors since the 80s, but these Supros are such a different type of instrument, that he can use it for certain songs or sessions and still be on good terms with Spector.
