Great information on the 6x6 post dimensions. I will be installing a 6 pitch roof on my deck this spring. Will not make the mistake of cutting all 4 post the same. Keep up the great content.

This video is super helpful! We have a project coming up where we'll need to connect our roof posts in a similar fashion and I think we'll look to try this way! For some reason though, our ABA66Z post bases do not have the extra two holes to drill down into the support beam. Is the hardware you used different?

Do you normally use pressure treated wood when using dimensional lumber as the beams? Looking to do a covered porch this summer.

it depends, but some of these beams could potentially see some moisture (the gable end) so we decided to just use PT for them

It also depends on load requirements and span. And yes, unfortunately you'll need to dig through code requirements in your municipality.

You guys seem lucky, the PT lumber looks dry. Here in VA all the PT is soaking wet. I mean like a sponge!! I just hung some 16’ rafters that had to be in excess of 100 lbs each, and were like wet noodles!

There is nothing in the Simpson handbook for using the ABA to attach to a wooden structure, and I seriously doubt code would allow that post to beam connection used in this video. If you have some document that proves it, by all means provide a link. That said, it has to be better than using the BC connector that is allowed.
