This is footage from my hike of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. I did the hike in late June or Early July of last year (2021).

Sporty conditions! There is a separate Lion's Head winter route that avoids the Tuckerman bowl for avalanche reasons. It has a particularly steep section that can be more akin to ice climbing if the conditions are right (or wrong). Descending anything steep like that in the rain has big pucker factor! Nice adventure, fella. 💪

Loved the video, BUT you expressed an intent to use a drone had the wind cooperated. Drones are not allowed in the presidentials for good reason. Anyway, you do great hiking narration, very engaging. Please tell your viewers to respect drone restrictions.

Yes! I hike all the time and constantly have songs popping in, especially near the summit.

Loved your commentary! Too bad it wasn’t a nicer day-you need to go back. 😊

If you're gonna do any winter hiking i'd recommend the Catskills. Theyre higher than the hudson highlands so the get more snow but they're not above treeline so it never gets very sketchy. Theyre also fairly well traveled and the main trails are almost always packed down withing a few days of any snowstorm. I grew up around there and honestly think they're easier to climb in the winter than in the summer with equally great views.

Did anyone see the animal behind him on the way down when he started filming again? I can’t tell if it’s a dog or some other rarely large animal

Thanks for the video. I plan to go hike this mountain before the end of the winter.

Cool...hiking this in winter is a whole different experience I'd imagine, good for you, and thanks for watching!

Dude the subtext captions throughout the video had me in stitches. Another great summit video, well done and subscribed.

Just did Washington a couple days ago, went the opposite you did, up Lions Head and down Tuckerman. The last half mile up the boulder field was probably one of the most grueling things I've done. And the trail down the head wall on Tuckerman was basically a running stream.

Fantastic hike! Your camera makes saturated colors - very "tasty" greens!

Thanks! The footage straight out of the camera (dji osmo action) was very flat, I messed around with the colors in Adobe premiere to give it a slightly more vibrant look.

Nice video - so which trail do you think is the more treacherous descent? Going up in a few weeks and still can't decide on the route.
@PrentissC2 жыл бұрын
I think Lion's head trail is the tougher of the two trails for descending, but only in a few areas. With that said, if I were to do this hike again, I'd do it the same way (up Tuckerman and down Lions) because both the trails offered great views and I enjoyed the variation. Have fun on your hike! I actually want to do this hike again because it was probably the best hike I've done... minus the rain.

@@PrentissC Thanks for the response - I definitely prefer the "easier" trip down. You should check out Franconia Ridge for another great hike, about 20 miles west of Mt Washington. Up the Falling Waters trail to the ridge, 1.5 miles of ridge walking above treeline with amazing views (if the weather agrees anyway) then down Greenleaf / Old Bridle Path. About 9-9.5 miles and crosses two 4000 footers.

Nice man. Be honest? How was this.. I'm 280lbs. I hiked a trial with an elevation of 3500K and that was difficult ... I plan to do this in July. should I be concerned?? lol
@PrentissC2 жыл бұрын
Weight doesn't tell the full story on a persons fitness level, so I can't say if you can hike this mountain or not. I will say that I'm usually anywhere between 210 and 220lbs at 6'2,and I had sore knees by the time I got near the bottom,the elevation loss of 6000+' in a relatively short distance is not easy on the body coming down the mountain, especially if you're a big guy. Lots of people hike this mountain one way and get a ride the opposite way, so you can always hike up the mountain and take the scenic train ride back down. Just something you can think about. For me this mountain was difficult, but doable.

Great job. I hiking up Mt Washington in the middle of July. What tips did you use on your treaking pole? Carbide or the rubber ones?
@PrentissC2 жыл бұрын
@@johnjackson7677 Thanks, I used a carbide tip on my trekking pole, but then again, I never switch it to rubber... Maybe I should sometimes depending on the terrain, anyways it worked out and don't recall any slipping.

It's all about pacing. But like he said, going down steep elevation is usually worse than going up. You're tired and you have to force yourself to slow down.
