Prepaid Electricity | Consequences of not upgrading meters by 24th November: Dr Silas Mulaudzi

Municipalities are in a race against time to upgrade all standard transfer specification meters by the 24th of November.
The South African Local Government Association, or SALGA, says the mandatory updating of prepaid electricity meters has allowed municipalities to identify non-vending meters, including those that are illegally bypassed.
Eskom and municipal electricity distributors are currently running their respective key revision number rollover projects.
The need to update prepaid electricity meters stems from the date-linked security mechanism that has counted down since January 1993.
The system will run out of range by the 24th of November this year.

It is a disaster. One pays Eskom or one's municipality a fortune per kilowatt. Plus VAT, nogal. Then one pays a connection fee monthly. Plus VAT, nogal. Then one subsidises others. Plus VAT, nogal. Additionally one pays rates which is meant to pay for all of this. The entire billing of electricity per household stinks of corruption.

ANC is smiling again. Only under ANC so many changes, street names, I'd books to cards, old meters to new meters, etc. but there is still fraud no matter what they change. They want to sound busy, but are actually doing nothing, except collecting money from us. People who had it installed had to pay for that Metre. Who get all this money. In Pretoria we wait for years to get prepaid meters. You have to pay 3000 to apply for one which is ridiculous. The municipalities don't take this very seriously.

If users have to consult the municipalities on upgrade procedures for their prepaid electr meters it will be one BIG disaster. Maybe the users who do it successfully have to give some advice on the internet by means of a explaining video podcast.

In my case I one day bought electricity, before I could insert the token , I had to punch in some 40 numbers then the token, that's how it got coded.

Im only one year on prepaid meter box and I have an Account No. to purchase tokens , We use our local Spar We will definitely put in token s within a day or two b4 November' 24 ,As most households have to wait for e.g. 25 th of the month ....
