+maxam66 Yea I say that thread. I don't think he is setting his monitor to a 30hz refresh rate. I see he is looking for a steady 30fps with no stutters. That is indeed the goal. My approach is I believe muh more straightforward but unfortunately redundant unless you can support a 30hz refresh rate. It seem pretty much that only simmers that use a TV instead of a monitor can achieve this. Glad you enjoyed the video :-)

How are you getting the head shaking effect on take off roll while still using track IR???
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Ram Berto I am pretty sure that is an EZDOK effect. I haven't really done anything to those setting. I just left them as they are. The only thing that I can think of that I did related to the that is Turn off "dymanic head movement" in cfg The only reason I turned it off is because I thought it sounded like the same thing that EZCA did but try it and see it you then get the EZCA head movement.
@ramberto77859 жыл бұрын
Ok reason i asked is i thought you couldnt get the EZDOCK effects while using track ir at the same time. So if you are moving your head with track IR there would be no shake from EZDOCK until you disabled track IR and then the head shake would return....thast the only reason i havent bought EZDOCK is i thought whatsd the use if i always use track it
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Ram Berto You should go and ask at simforums.com I wouldn't want you to buy an addon based on info I give you but I am quite sure that "shacking" is produced by EZdok camera, even with TrackIR in use. You have to do a little setup in EZdok for TrackIR that involves disabling True View in TrackIR but that is the least of it. Installation and setting up camera sets in time consuming and tricky and its in beta for Prepar3D V2 and V3. Here is the link to the forum: www.simforums.com/forums/ezdok-software_forum39.html

@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Vu Pham Yea, you have point! I originally planned to edit the video with Windows movie maker and add screen shots of the Display setting. Editing the Video added stutters that would be mistaken for the Usual Vsync stutters seen in P3D and FSX so I just uploaded the shadowplay MP4 despite the embarrassment of nearly killing everyone shortly after take off but I guess nobody watched the video to the end since there are no comments about it LOL! So having considered posting the setting from my CFG I decided not to. I don't want anyone screwing up the .cfg pasting parts of mine into it. My specific setting are in any case not relevant. My system will run can maintain 30fps with those setting. Your system may not be able too or perhaps your system can maintain 30fps at higher setting. You have to determine the appropriate setting for your system yourself.

Having a rough time finding a decent monitor that can run at 60hz for other games, but also 30hz for flight sim... could you recommend one?
@davidmcclean88118 жыл бұрын
+Mile-Hi Aviation | HD Aviation Content I can't recommend one but I can tell you that if you want 30hz you will probably have to get a TV instead. I use a Samsung 60" Plasma TV for gaming and it works great. No lag at all. It supports 24hz, 29hz, 30hz, 50hz, 59hz and 60hz. For Prepar3D in many scenarios I can maintain 50fps so I use 50hz but for PMDG aircraft at major hubs with traffic etc. I can maintain over 30fps so I use 30hz. I would only add that if you can find a TV that also supports 39hz or 40hz you will get great benefit from that. Bottom line I don't think you will find a monitor that supports 30hz. If you want that you will have to go with a TV. I would suggest asking on AVSIM. You will probably get a lot of input there.

Hello! I played a lot of Flight Sim when the Fs9 and X was on CD, can I ask, what does it takes to get an Flight Simulator running like your does AND is it the FSX you are playing with?

That's P3D, if you read the description this guy has an insane CPU(oc'd to5ghz) and very few come like that, it is therefore very rare to get performance like this without putting at least $1200 and hours into over clocking and tweaking. Needless to say, this guy did not have his sim like this on day 2.
@davidmcclean88118 жыл бұрын
+Joneseyce. you are correct :-) There is a lot of ground work to achieve this performance. In my case a rather novel coolong solution that has served me well for nearly 2.5 years. However you can get this performance at 4.8 or perhaps 4.6ghz. The real secret is as the title of the video says, a 30hz refresh rate. Very few monitors will do it but plenty of TV's will. And as a precursor to that you need to follow NickN's guides on Simforums.com to the letter:-) I get sick of saying that :-)

Can you do a tutorial on how to actually get this to work?
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Mark Daniel There really isn't that much too it. Your monitor will have to support 30hz and to be honest the vast majority won't. Most LCD and Plasma TV's will and that is what I use. If you can set your display refresh rate in Nvidia Control Panel to 30hz your in luck. However, don't force it if your display doesn't support it. Once your set to 30hz turn off Vsync in P3D display setting with Frame rate set to unlimited and tune your setting so that you are always getting over 34 or 35 FPS. You will have to do this for different kinds of scenarios and save display profiles accordingly. Call the display Profiles for example: "Heavies at Big Addon Airport" and "GA at ORBX airport" accordingly. Once you have you Profiles setup to maintain 34 or 35 fps in corresponding types of scenarios you can Turn on Vsync and you may want to turn on Tripple buffing too. Leave Frame rate at Unlimited. Then when you enter the sim you should see the frame counter pretty constantly at 30FPS and no stutters.
@mdmarkdaniel469 жыл бұрын
My display doesn't support 30hz. So I guess I am out of luck. But thanks for the reply, David!
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Mark Daniel Do you have a lcd or plasma TV with a HDMI port in your home? If so you could at least test 30hz with your system. You will also probably need a DVI to HDMI cable. If you have success then you at least know it will work for you. You could then consider replacing your monitor with TV. They mostly all support 30hz. 60fps in the modern games on high setting in common place these days but I think 60fps on high setting in Flight Sim is years away.
@DerniersOutrages9 жыл бұрын
+David McClean Hi David! I was considering a setup close to yours (Heavyduty-PC + v-synced samsung TV), but I assumed I would connect my 980 Ti using HDMI. Should I use DVI instead?
@rickslinger61009 жыл бұрын
Very nice video, I gave up a year ago on simming because of stutters. Considering to go back now.... So the key is never go below 30 fps, and a 30 HZ monitor? You should make some more video's. This one is great!!
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Rick Slinger That is one school of thought. Others say that using gsync delivers similar results. I have not seen that and to be honest I am skeptical. In my option 30fps/30hz in the way to go. However, maintaining 30fps gate to gate is proving hard to achieve. I find that on airline flights from any airport I can have more than satisfactory eye candy and maintain 30fps and therefore near perfect smooth game play from push back to climb out and all the way to the destination. However, once i get to the destination airport with all the same setting the fps starts to dip below 30fps as goes as low as 20fps on the approach inducing the all to familiar vsync stutters. Ironically, this is the part of the flight where smoothness is most required. And yet, then with the same settings I can depart from that same airport maintaining 30fps no problem. I have yet to solve this problem. I really only spend a lot of time simming in the winter and again this winter I spent far more time optimizing the experience than I did actually in the virtual skies. If I where asked the question, was the time effort and money worth it? With the benefit of hindsight and without much pondering I would say No! I anticipate one more video this winter illustrating this exact problem. I have not posted anything in AVSIM or Prepar3D.com about it yet but I would be surprised if this issue was not universal for all users. For me its a deal braker. If I cannot fix it I am done with Flight Sim or at least with tubliner's and in flight sim
@rickslinger61009 жыл бұрын

@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+cristian lorenzoli I have about 500 WOAI packages. I used AI flight planner to convert the flight Plans from FS9 format to FSX format so they play nice with P3D. WAOI is freeware and I often cannot believe how low impact it is on Performance. There was 25 AI aircraft at the airport for that video :-)
@cristian1407759 жыл бұрын
Really impressive! Planes seem very well done.. :-) I have to convert them to make them work with P3D?
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+cristian lorenzoli Well, I have only scratched the surface with AI Flight Planner. You don't have to convert them but I don't think that FS9 flight Plans are strictly compatible with FSX or P3D. And I have to say that that video shows the best I have ever seen WOAI behave. I think that perhaps AI with FS9 Flight Plans perhaps are in the AI traffic count but don't show up in the sim. Not to sure about that. However AI Flight Planner is freeware and it will batch convert all your FS9 flight plans to FSX Flight plans in one fowl swoop. If you have a whole buch of WOAI packages then you can do a lot of manipulation of these packages with AI flight Planner.

G´day David, im running my sim the same way. Your result is outstanding as you use heavy add ons in your vid. So i would say you could be satisfied with the outcome. CYYZ is great but still a resource hog as well as is the T7. However it must be said that a it is also up to 3PDs to deliver high efficient native P3D2.x/3.x add ons. That is as well the key to a fluid sim experience. Although i tweaked my cfg a bit maybe that could help. FFTF=0.15, TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=160, TextureMaxLoad=27, AffinityMask=340 (for a i7 5820k oc´ed 4.5GHz HT=ON)

Really smooth experience. Why is it important to lower refresh rate and lock in 30 FPS? If i set FPS limiter to 30, it often dipped under 30...why??? I'm using GTX1070 and my FPS fluctuates wildly from ~25 at CYYZ to100+during cruise, really frustrated.
@davidmcclean88118 жыл бұрын
The trick to smoothness is not the number of FPS it is that all the frames are diplayed for the exact same length of time. If you have 100 frames per second and some of those frames last 1/50 of a second and others last 1/200 or a second and everything in between you will see stutters. On the other hand if you have 30 frames per second and each frame is exactly and consistently 1/30 of a second you gaqme play will be smooth. Using the internal frame limiter as I understand it has a performance overhead. If you monitor supports a refresh rate of 30hz then you can accomplish what I have shown above. First of all set your Frame Rate to unlimited, Turn off triple buffing and Vsync. Set up you senario and fly with the frame counter on. (best to use ShadowPlay frame counter and not the built in one) if you FPS is consistently above 30 FPS (a minimum of about 35 is good) then you are good to go. If your FPS is always way above 30 like in the 40, 50 and 60 or higher you can tune your setting upwards to bring the the FPS down to a Minimum of about 35 as indicated. Once you have done all of this you need to save your setting and scenario and exit the sim. Go into Nvidia Control Panel and change your refresh rate to 30hz (Your monitor may not support 30hz, in which case you are out of luck) Restart your system and start the flight sim and load the scenario. Go into display setting and turn Vsync on and fly. if you didi everything right you should have a perfectly smooth gameplay experience. leave the ShadowPlay frame counter on and you should see it remain a 30 consistently. if you notice a stutter (and you occasionally will) glance at the frame counter and I beat you will see the frame counter dip below 30. This all works great except on approach where you will likely not be able to maintain anywhere near 30FPS even on very low setting. That's why I quit Flight Sim :-(

I therefore decided to just upload the unedited MP4 from ShadowPlay. The setting themselves are not really that important though because the setting that can maintain 30FPS will vary from one machine to another. You will have to take a trial and error approach. The key is 30fps at 30hz.

Hi David and thank you for this very interesting feed. How could you manage to OC your 4770k to 5 GHz, it seems impossible ?! Thank you very much. JF

2 things would solve your stutter. a gtx 1080 (or even a 1070), and a few gsync monitors. I run triple 7880*1440 gsync 27" monitors at 144hz. fps can dip as low as 35 fps in prepar3d, but as long as they stay within the gsync window, it's absolutely smooth as silk without a single hickup. (mind you, I only run asn for clouds). the other thing to get rid of stutter is simple. STOP using sli. every config I've ever run had stuttering issues when i ran sli. I removed the second card, and presto, no stutter.

Great video but it was clickbait. I came for the secret and didn't get any tips. All I got is a video of you taxiing and taking off. Not too helpful......
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+Sensei Dekkers The one and only tip is 30fps at 30hz. Thats it! If you display does not support 30hz its redundant. The video is the evidence that it works.

god thats beautiful. I can only get my 4770k stable at 4.3ghz and ive only got a 24hz or 60hz setting so i have to stick with that
@davidmcclean88119 жыл бұрын
+BunnyHairedKid depending on your monitor size and how close to it you sit and how good your eyes are, 24hz might cut it. If you are looking straight ahead it will certainly cut it, however when panning you will likely notice that it is not fluid. However so long as you are maintaining 24 fps at 24hz it will be smooth. i.e. stutter free
@BunnyHairedKid9 жыл бұрын
+David McClean Yeah I've been using it so it's alright. Do you also need to lock fps internally at 24 for that or can you leave it unlimited and it automatically stays at 24?

Someone asked me if I use a HDMI to HDMI cable or a DVI to HDMI cable. I can confirm that it is the later. DVI connected to the video card and HDMI end connected to Samsung TV. I really don't know if it would make a difference if you used a HDMI to HDMI cable. So long as your display supports a 30hz refresh rate I suppose it doesn't matter if you use HDMI to HDMI or DVI to HDMI but I am no expert on these matters. If your display weather TV or monitor supports 30hz you should be able to achieve smooth stutter free game play at 30fps. achieving 30fps and achieving the quality I have achieved is another story. that depends on a lot of factors. How good your hardware is. Mine is all well over 2 years old now. i7 4770K, 2 x GTX780 etc. However, It was very carefully put together following NickN's guide on simforums.com I even delided the CPU and replaced the thermal paste. I also installed and optimized windows 7 as per NickN's bible on simforums.com I just substituted the FSX installation steps with Prepare3D installation leaving out the exotic stuff that just applies to FSX shortcoming. I had one other trick up my sleeve and that is that my system is in an unheated semi-outdoor part of my house so in the winter i often see my CPU at 0C when idling. I made this video while the system was heavily overclocked. 5ghz on the CPU and the DRAM 2400mhz CL8 (that is a super fast memory overclock) so even if your hardware is equivalent or even better and your display can be run at 30hz. getting the 30fps at it looking this good is still going to be a tall order.

My combo which achieves this same performance without locking 30hz/30fps: i7 6700k stock, GTX 1070 stock, 16gb ram, 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD (P3D and OS), 144hz G-SYNC @ 1440p. Pricey, but running FlyTampa YYZ just like this video. When I look back at the hundreds of hours and dollars over the past 20 years trying to achieve this performance, I have to laugh.
@davidmcclean88118 жыл бұрын
Glad that works for you. To aid in the discussion perhaps you can make and upload a similar video for comparison so we can all see if G-sync can deliver stutter free performance like 30fps at 30hz
@davidmcclean88118 жыл бұрын
Funny you should ask that ask that now. Since it is running at 5ghz as I typwe this. First off you don't need 5ghz to achieve the results in the video. 4.8 or even 4.6 will do. NickN posted an complete guide here: www.simforums.com/forums/haswell-48ghz-on-air-building-a-haswell-system_topic46180.html Its a lot of work but it works. I got the extra 2000mhz by keeping my system on a semi outdoor environment at around 0 to -10C in the winter

sorry, I am not sure and I cant take it of the wall to find out :-( I am sure you would get the same results with any display that supports 30hz. In fact it might look even smoother with a 30hz LCD TV. I am really not sure.
