Prepar3D v4.5 | ORBX Edinburgh | STUNNING NEW SCENERY! | EasyJet A320 Departure

ORBX have released their stunning new Edinburgh Airport scenery for P3Dv4, so I thought this would be a good excuse to make a quick video!
Firstly before I continue, I should say that while being a fantastic scenery, it does have some performance issues which I definitely noticed while making this video. Noticably there are stutters and low FPS whenever looking towards the ramp/terminal area. I understand ORBX are aware of these issues, and working on a fix which will be out in January. Anyway, on with the description!
This took a while to film but I hope people will enjoy it. You join us on board the Edinburgh Tram, as we're in the final stage of our journey to the airport from the city centre. As we pull into the airport tram stop, you get a good view of the surrounding scenery.
The time is coming up to 7pm, and our flight to Gatwick, EZY812, is due to depart in just under an hour. We make our way to the terminal and have a great view of our aircraft, A320 G-EZTC, parked at the apron.
After a 40 minute delay, we're finally boarding via the rear stairs. I was really impressed with GSX here, especially the way the passengers emerge from the bus and climb the stairs - it really adds to the immersion, and I tried to show a bit of that in the video.
After the pilot's announcement, everyone's aboard and we're now pushing back, before taxiing to runway 06. We have to wait a few minutes for another flight to land, and then we're on our way.
Climbing initially to 6000ft on the GOSA1D departure, we fly directly over Cramond Beach, and then out over the North Sea estuary, before turning to the left over the Firth of Forth. There's some great views of the Forth Bridge, which is really well modelled by ORBX here.

I've just discovered your channel.. for once YT recommendations were bang on! This video is so immersive and incredibly well done. The journey to the airport taking in all the (surprisingly well moddelled) cars in the car park just draws you straight into the story. The airport scene with real world recordings is a nice touch, as is that rush of wind when you walk out onto the apron. You could easily be fooled into feeling you are actually living through it with the attention to detail (despite the momentary fps stutters). A fantastic job.

Thanks I really appreciate the kind comment! It's tricky to do a settings video really, because I tend to use different settings depending on the scenery and aircraft I'm using. There are lots of really good settings vids out there though, in particular the aviationpro channel does a good video about getting good frame rates with nice graphics. Thanks for that succinct critique. 1: The beacon light was on, for reasons I couldn’t fathom it was not apparent in the external views. 2: Flaps 1 was set during the after start checklist. You can see the flaps are in position 1 during the taxi, can you not? 3: Yes, the spoiler jitters during playback with the Aerosoft A320 - setting FBW to ‘off’ helps to reduce this, but it still happens to a degree. Not much I can do about that, sorry.

Thanks! Of course. Question 1: I absolutely love the scenery, it is very detailed and nicely textured. It is not without its faults though - there are some textures missing which become apparent when you are viewing from a low angle, and some of the ground textures are not to the same quality of the ramp areas. However, this doesn't really detract too much from the overall impression, which is excellent. I have flown out of Edinburgh Airport many times, and this is a very good model. Question 2: This is another sticking point - the performance is not great at the moment. ORBX are looking at releasing an update in January, as a lot of people have complained about low FPS around the airport. I can confirm that it did have a significant frame rate hit on my machine, and I had to lower my texture resolution and other settings to make it flyable. ORBX are working on an update to come out in January, which will hopefully fix this. Overall, I would definitely recommend getting it, but you might want to wait until the update is released. @@tjfSIM Thanks, Tj! This helps a lot. I actually picked up the TrueEarth GB South scenery the other day (since it was on sale), but OMG my framerates in/aro iui bd London went from 50 to about 11. Had to uninstall for the time being, unfortunately. I wasn't aware the FTX regions also had performance issues....I thought it was just the TrueEarth stuff.

@@MCP2002 I'm not aware the FTX regions are particularly bad on frames - it's just the EGPH scenery that is heavy on my system at present. I generally fly with EU England and EU Scotland enabled without too many problems, although I'm sure it does affect frames a bit. I was thinking about getting the GB South scenery but will hold off for the time being, thanks for the heads up on that! I hope ORBX will be able to sort out these optimisation issues. Partly the problem is the people flow at EGPH - they've put a lot of people in the terminals and around the ramp areas, which is lovely but has a huge impact on frames and memory usage. I think EGLC also suffers from the same issues.

@@MCP2002 Yes I too have FTX Global. I must admit I find ORBX's product categories very confusing. It's never clear exactly what overlaps with what. For instance, you could have Global, EU England, True Earth GB South and EGLC installed, potentially all providing scenery for exactly the same location. Which one takes precedent over which, and is there conflicting/duplicated scenery? I may have to post in their forums to try and get a definitive answer.
