Supposed to be 7 Friday night where I am in West Virginia, not as cold as where you are but still have to get my CL 5036 ready. Gonna spend the afternoon cleaning the ashes out and making sure there is enough rounds near by to keep it burning.

Also in New England, interested to see how the G4000 does with this cold snap. First year with it, so we'll see how it goes. Also, once that wheelbarrow officially dies I would recommend getting a gorilla cart -- I'll never go back to an actual wheel barrow

I actually do not mind mixing some dry pine in even when it gets that cold. For years pine might have been the only wood I had and had no problems with it going 12 hours plus even on the cold nights. Sometimes I think having the pine mixed in actually brings the water up to temp quicker than if it was all hardwood.
@HomesteadJay
@HomesteadJay 5 ай бұрын
You are 100% right. The pine will burn hotter and faster than the hard woods and the machine will have a faster recovery time using pine for sure. No question there. Just an issue of burning all coals up cause pine doesn’t leave squat for coals lol
@Glock2201
@Glock2201 5 ай бұрын
@@HomesteadJay No it does not. I find the biggest difference between hardwood and softwood is that hardwood makes way more coals to keep the water up to temp. The burn times are usually very similar. I guess one of the reasons I don't mind burning softwood when it is cold is that it struggles to get 24 hour burn time no matter what wood you use but in normal temps I can get 24 hour burn times fairly easily mixing about 50/50.

Good information for those cold, cold nights. You should get you some 1/2 x 1 wire and bend you up a screen box so you can save all those coals when you do your clean-out. I made mine to straddle the top of my wheel barrow so it makes it easy to drop the shovel fulls of ash/coals in and then toss the coals back in the stove that are walnut sized and bigger. Nice being able to save and use all the good coals and get the powdery ash completely removed during the cleanout.
@HomesteadJay

I usually do screen it after it cools down! I use the clean ash for ice and garden uses and I toss the coals back in! Ill do another video on this!
