The one I picked up today is a Mil-Tec fugazzi (knock off). Everything on /about mine is exactly as yours except for NO makers mark. Just an German/English adhesive decal that had some cleaning/cooking info and gave an address in Germany. It does have the the hash marks at the 3 half liters marks. Enjoyed your video.

Sometimes man needs more than a cup of noodles James 😉 Seriosuly though obviously canteen cups are awesome and you hardly notice carrying them as they nest with your water bottle I like to collect army surplus and have several mess kits most of which are based on the German M31 because it's so good for camp cooking on a fire Thabks for watching brother hope you have a great weekend my man! 👍 All the best Roo

@@PreparedCamping Hope you have a good weekend too. I got some funny looks and and a lot of qustions when I used the East German version in the field. The DDR ones are smaller then thwe Bundeswehr ones I think (my DDR onepacked ready on the transport for a week in the field) but they are an efficent and useful design however using the lid as a cup does not work so wrll as the hot liquid cools rapidly. ATB as ever. Nigel
@PreparedCamping5 жыл бұрын
@@pnyarrow I've always had a separate cup with whatever canteen I brought with when using these mess kits for cooking so have never tried using the lid as a cup I can see how the large surface area would rapidly cool any hot drink you made in it alright but holds over half a litre so that's a very large cup of tea if you're thirsty! Take care Roo

1:30 this is not the way we handle this mess kit. You can hold all 3 pieces in ONE hand. The first 2 pieces you did right, now you have to swap the handle of the main cook pot to the other side. It will lock into a 90° angle. Then, you put the "bridge" of pan and cup across your palm, then put the handle of the main pot (that is locked into a 90° angle) over the "bridge" and close your palm. Now you can receive and handle main meal, sides and a drink with one hand. That's the clue to other once.

All these aluminum mess kits you see for sale are only suitable if you happen to have a field kitchen following you around. If you intend to cook in a mess kit over an open flame, steel/stainless steel is preferable for it's heat retention ability.
@PreparedCamping4 жыл бұрын
Steel is superior for a few reasons but these are perfectly capable Particularly as most of the time they're just used to boil water to heat a MRE or some noodles All the best Roo

Knowing what we know now, aluminium is not suitable for cooking over an open fire due to being a health risk. Nice as a collectors item though.
@PreparedCamping4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching David I use a variety of cookware both at home and when camping Acidic foods can react with aluminium but there are several reports that state any leeching is so minimal that it is safe to cook with Obviously everyone has to make their own mind up, my absolute favourite cookware for an open fire is cast iron Hipe you have a great weekend, all the best Roo
