wow, i never realized you were crafting your own filters like that this whole time, so much work goes into these refinings that normally we don't see

@@sreetips Did it yield a clearer filtrate?
@sreetips3 ай бұрын
I wasn’t after the filtrate, I was filtering out the gold foils to capture them in the coffee filters. I didn’t check the filtrate.

I need to pre-fold about 50 of these and just store them.
@sreetips3 ай бұрын
For capturing gold foils you could probably get away with a doubled up coffee filter.

What material is the filter made of? If it's cotton or paper, shouldn't the chloroauric acid eat through it? I don't understand this.
@sreetips2 ай бұрын
Those are lab grade filters. In this case 24cm number two medium flow. Hot chloroauric acid solution will cause those filters to fail quickly. But if it’s cooled by adding ice then they hold up well.

Do you "have to" make them or are you just saving money by making them yourself? By that I mean are there none you can buy like that?
@sreetips3 ай бұрын
Maybe there is. But I just find it more convenient to make them myself.
@williamfoote28883 ай бұрын
You’ll always find a box of standard FP in any lab that uses a Buchner Funnel. As you watched S fold that piece up, the 30 seconds it took doesn’t lend itself for anybody to fold them like that. Besides, folding them into quarters is how you’d put them in a standard triangular filter.

laboratory grade coffee filter! It's a dirty shame regular coffee filters don't work and are too flimsy, or that would save a lot of time and money.
@sreetips3 ай бұрын
For stuff like capturing gold foils, I think a doubled up coffee filter would work fine. I don’t have any coffee filters at my shop.

All funnels do, why wouldn't they? You can literally put a filter in Any funnel. And you asked that 100% serious and believing you outsmarted people.
