To ensure our caravan is balanced properly prior to hitching I use a tow ball weight gauge. 100kg is the correct figure for my sorento but other cars are different. Also prior to moving off I also torque check the wheel nuts.

@@hackettdavid David. Obtain a “Nose Weight Gauge” from a caravan shop. Place the gauge under the tow hitch, unwind the nose wheel and look at the weight shown as jockey wheel goes loose. This should show 100kg on gauge if it does not then move contents of caravan towards front to increase weight figure or back to decrease figure on gauge. 5-10kg(no more) heavier is safer than lighter. These figures are for a Sorento use figures given in your car handbook specifications always

Hello there fellow adventurers. Across the pond from you here in the USA we call our Caravans Campers, Recreation Vehicles(RV), Travel Trailer. The jockey wheel is called the Tongue Jack, the steadies are called the Stabilizing Jacks. Most campgrounds here have “Full Hook Ups”, meaning water, electric and sewer. We attach a sewer hose to the black water outlet to the receiver in to an underground holding tank. Our “Caravan” is a 1998 Layton Skyline 3710, with an electric slide out room. It is very well built and the yearly maintenance is lubricating the slide out mechanisms, checking and lubricating the rubber seals around the slide out room, shampooing the carpets and upholstery, check the roof seams, window seals, clean screens. We use our “Caravan” from May to October in Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Enjoy your campsites under the clear star lit nights. 🇺🇸🇬🇧🍺🍹 David Page. East Millinocket, Maine
