One of the greatest helps that I ever received, was years ago my pastor said “for one year, every time you preach, only use ONE verse”. Now this dosent mean you only read the one verse or you don’t use other texts…but all of your sermon, your subject, theme, points, sub points all come from one verse. Of course you can use other verses to prove or apply what you say, but stick with that text. It seemed impossible at that time, but now years later, and all the time sticking with one text, it’s almost all I do. It has helped so tremendously and built the ability to break a verse down, to drive and apply the theme all while staying within and true to the text.

Eziaghighala Joe onyechefule This guy is really good, informative for sure. I can relate by the way with the preachers that talk long after the anointing is over, experienced that many times over.

Great simplified method of how to do and expository sermon, prompted by the witness and action of the Holy Spirit. I would add to confession, repentance, and consecration, be proceeded with acknowledgment of sin. We have to understand that we are sinful before we can ever confess that sin to a Holy God. Praise Jesus

+Blaine Simons I was about to quote this too, when I got to the part where he said that God doesn't love anyone more than anyone else. It is clear in scripture that God loves those that He saves more than those that He doesn't.

If one were to prepare a sermon out of 4 verses of the bible, is that an expository sermon or is that a textual sermon? I was thinking that a short text like that would not qualify. I was thinking that a whole book of the bible might qualify as an expository sermon.

He presents some decent points but I am not in full agreement with his theology. Take what you find is useful to you and leave the rest.

The more you read the whole Bible from cover to cover, the less sermons you need to hear. The Spirit of Truth is your teacher who will guide you into all truth and open your understanding that you may understand the scriptures and grow thereby.1Pe2:2
