You two are THE BEST teachers! Yours is always information of high enough quality to share with anyone. This could even be used in safety meetings.

Pam, me and my Husband went to Zion in late April several years ago. It was hot then too and we couldn’t believe how many people were hiking with no water and flip flops. Visitors don’t realize how dangerous the wild is. We live in Colorado and so many visitors get in trouble out here. I also pack first aid, snacks, sunscreen plenty of water and rain gear.

I have become a huge fan of a good set of hiking poles. Can act as a crutch if you turn an ankle. A club if attacked by dogs or wildlife. Can be a tent poles for emergency shelter ...

I was very interested to see your kit for hiking. But there were a couple of things you left out and I was curious why. I didn't see cordage. I would have included bank line and paracord. I would have also included a ferro rod and a simple bick lighter. I did like your camel backs. What brands did you say they are? Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing.

Good tips! We do have paracord in our car emergency kits, but we need to add some to our backpacks. Same with the ferro rod. The brand is Camelback.

I have my whistle on a lanyard attached to my backpack. Sometimes, I take the whistle off and wear around my neck, if I fear getting separated from my backpack. I wear it around my neck on airplanes too! I should probably have more than one whistle!
