Well, I mean it's a job. If he was rich, maybe (or probably) he wouldn't even be making videos, and instead use those hours of filming and editing work on living in the moment some more, doing some other things that are interested, etc.

Actually, this thing of regular weekly videos, is probably the worst thing about it all. Keeping it interesting, when in reality maybe you would have liked to live for a few weeks or months in a very "uninteresting" regime... (but it would be bad for the prostitution of "content" ...)
@MrCkoollness
@MrCkoollness 2 жыл бұрын
@@MaximC wow you have a really negative outlook on things. He stated before that he likes to be busy, doesn't like to do nothing, so that creates a natural flow of developments which you can film. Plus why wouldn't you film this just for the sake of documentation? For the rest of his life he'll have a video diary of his work on the cabins. I don't get you..

@@MrCkoollness It's not negative. It's one thing to document for your own pleasure, at your own pace, taking days off from it whenever you feel like it, and it's another thing to keep producing regular weekly videos for KZbin.

Another weekly date with Martijn! I am an old lady in Canada, alone, no kids, no partner, with only a few members of my family around, none of whom were ever as close to me as most families are with each other. As much as I absolutely love these videos, and I do because they are the highlight of my week, I am always in tears by the end because of how painfully beautiful each moment is for Martijn, how he makes each moment count, unlike how I have lived my life. Oh how many regrets come rushing to the forefront of my mind each time I watch! Like how much unspoiled land I have bought and sold over the years, gone forever now, unfortunately always taking everything for granted, that this would happen and that would happen, ... only Life never turns out that way. Oh for a second chance at doing things differently! Martijn's ability to live in the moment, yet make magic happen on a daily basis in his quiet perfect way, this wonderful, talented, handsome Renaissance man, his life, would be my template. Best channel on KZbin by far. I just hope the creeps out there don't seek him out in person. Martijn is an international treasure. Thank you Martijn for living the life so many of us wish we had had the courage to lead. ❤🌿🍁🍂🌱🌲🛠

What these videos mean to us: For 7-1/2 years, my brother and I traveled the world with just our backpacks and duffels. Three years ago, my brother suffered several strokes in Greece, Macedonia, and Kosovo, and we returned to the states. His vision has improved enough to watch big-screen TV, but he remains bedridden. The absolute highlight of our week is when a new Martijn video is posted. We have been watching religiously since its inception, and we thoroughly enjoyed revisiting our Latin American adventures to the end of the world in Patagonia. We love every aspect of the videos, from the skilled craftsmanship to the hikes to the quiet meditative moments. Everyone has their own reason for watching. For us, it is a weekly uplifting event. Thank you! Joel and Stephen Dennstedt

My what a history dear lady you have had and what a true statement when they say here in US “ a apple does not fall far from its tree”. Your dad sounded like he put his family first and he appreciated yous more because he had already learned at 53 what was important. What a wonderful life he gave his family! I too lost my wonderful husband if 68 years to Covid 2 years ago. I am 90 yrs old traveled all over and took our kids everywhere. They all turned out good but the main reason they turned out good was because my husband took the lead in using the Bible as a guide. No spoiled kids they learned to work and then they got to play in the ocean in the mountains camping fishing going to Christian conventions all over the US. I too live on memories but I wish I could sit and have a cup of tea with you my the similar stories I bet we could tell!

Hello Martin, As a person who loves solitude, the companionship of the outdoors is divine. The balance of enjoying your life and working on your home is great to see. It was also lovely to see your family visit and to have "helpers". In America, we are struggling to understand the past where food/shelter/safety were the goals, fast forward to now, where the future of America is in the hands of people who worry about "likes" on social media and getting the most "stuff", with minimal work. Our education system is so dumbed down it is frightening. There are exceptions, but they are a sliver of our population. It was nice to kids interested in learning basic life skills, you helped them experience that. Enjoy your beautiful life and thank you for allowing us to come along. Your footage is beautiful. All the best.

Martijn, Really loved this episode, reminds me of 50 years ago when after loosing our home in the 1968 bush fires my Husband and I took off to central Queensland to a place called Rubyvale, to mine sapphires. we had a panelvan which we slept in and a tin shed which we built with bush timber and corrugated iron, in which to cook. No solar in those days we used a carbide lamp which was a bit tricky. Our shower was open air also with a hand pump to pump warm water from the fire up to a 5 gallon drum with a shower rose on it. Our toilet also three sided over a drop pit. we were considered POSH because we had a kerosene refrigerator, as my husband would only drink cold beer after a hard day digging dirt. The locals just keep their beer in the shade. We had to go 40 Kilometres into town to get drinking water, all other water was from the village bore. It was an exciting experience and we stuck it out for 10 months then took our profit and spent it on the Great Barrier Reef before going back to the Blue Mountains to rebuild our home. Your wonderful videos have brought back these memories for me. I have watched everyone and wait impatiently for the next one. Highlight of my week. Best wishes for your continued health and happiness, Caroline Allenby PS the Allergy could be the Birch, my Finnish friend has to leave Oulu every summer to go to Paris, LOL or that's what she tells her husband.

Years ago, when we were adding a dry stone wall in our back yard, I remember two things our master mason said: when I asked how it was going that day, Ed said "The digging is good" and when he was asked about how to choose stones for a wall he said "There are three kinds of rock: a face rock, a shim rock and an ugly rock!"...words to live by.

I remember a few months ago I watched the "One Year" video, and recently I found my self lacking in interesting, relaxing, motivating and educational content. I realize that's a hard nut to crack or whatever the saying is. Or is it "a lot to ask"? I don't know. Regardless! One thing that strikes me is that you NEVER use music unless it's to in woke a specific maybe unintentional feeling, but non the less a feeling. Like the «Iles» song by Jordan Critz in that very video. I cannot describe how that made me feel. I wanted to cry, I wanted to smile, I wanted to cheer. Everything seems so methodical and intentional, yet so organic and chaotic. Not often do I find myself binging a whole KZbin channel and seemingly not have the ability to stop, I am enthralled in what you do, the way you tell a story without saying a word, having it so peaceful and letting us hear every notice you hear is fantastic. I know a few channels has gotten this award I'm about to give out over the years, but in 2023 you will be the recipient of the most honorable and prestigious award of being my favorite KZbin channel. This means you'll get a place on my wall of awesome creators. Anything you would like to tell the 14 others on the wall including me? Hehe I hope you have an awesome day and I hope I get to come by sometime to see this spectacular place. Much love from Norway. :)

Appreciate your monologue there, about 2/3 through the video. The tension of "sheltering" ourselves without going overboard with it, and leaving room to wrestle with nature and enjoy our environment - without cutting ourselves off from it too much - is a really good thing. Putting ourselves in a position to take on that worthwhile challenge - and then actually taking it on - that's "where it's at". And you reminded us of that. Beautiful.

Hi Martijn. My goodness you’ve come so far with your beautiful place in the Alps. I don’t know about anybody else but I love EVERYTHING you’ve done. Your talk on living outside, I totally get. It’s how I wanted to live once my kids grew up. We did sell up and upgrade the caravan and go around Australia x2 but then had to come back to look after my elderly mum. So I’m back to living in a house in a street again….YUK YUK YUK…what I wouldn’t give to sit on your property for just one day and soak that magnificence that is there. I watch you every week and can’t believe how much you’ve done. I LOVE IT ALL….so lovely to meet your brother and parents. I bet they never wanted to leave….bless you, stay safe….big Aussie fan…😊🇦🇺🫶🏼

I think you’re going to love the Bluetti, it’s does an amazing job. Great video as always, the views are always amazing, and great job on the stone wall. If any of the farmers in your area keep bees, try the local honey. It will help with the allergies. Take care!

Listening to the clanging as you hauled the pipe up the mountain, I wondered if the nearby farmers & shepherds wondered what kind of crazy cowbells the 'new guy' got! Add me to the list of folks drawn to stop by & help. That being impossible since I'm on an Alaskan island, I imagine being your dog companion- goes everywhere, adores you& what you're doing, etc. My first years on this island were similar with 'bushcraft' the only way to get by. We, the 'now-old-timers', love storytelling of those days, before roads, electricity, telephones, etc. Many 'youngsters' find it hard to believe we made it, especially 'no phones'; we had a mail plane then, weather permitting. Only those of us with creativity, ingenuity and PATIENCE and fortitude are still here-- and loving life. Proud I raised my son here, he chose his wonderful mate, had 4 sons, and now they're starting families- none planning on leaving this paradise. So you never know how your solo-story will end! A salute and cheers to you for a long and wonderful adventure!

You have an absolutely stunning place to live. I love watching you fabricate the things that you need and the lengths you are going through to accomplish your dream. Wish I were still a young, vibrant woman because I would be there with bells on to help you as a helper. I have always enjoyed mother nature and being outside to admire her beauty. Things are just there on the shelf for people to pick up, that someone else's hand made. People have let the old ways go by the wayside and gotten quite lazy. Being able to be self sufficient is a wonderful thing and I admire your tenacity to get things accomplished and the idea of making it as though it has always been there. Love your videos and and how passionate you are about things looking weathered and aged. Much love from Virginia, USA.

Martijn, I’m only watching this now (December) because I only just found out about you and these videos, but I’ve been enjoying them immensely. You’ve inspired me to do more projects of my own, albeit much smaller ones! I wanted to say that for next spring and summer with regard to your allergies, I also suffered a lot here in Greece until I was told about a wonderful cure: eat honey collected from bees in the area. They use the same pollen that’s bothering you to make the honey and by eating it your body builds up a resistance. Eat a spoonful or two a day and after a few days you should see a big difference. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me. All the best.

Martijn, you also have six admirers in Indiana and Illinois who are fascinated with your videos for a very unique reason. My wife has a brother and sister who are married, but the unique thing for us is that my father in law (may he rest in peace), immigrated to the U.S. from the next valley north of you. Exactly the same kinds of structures there as what you have. We've been to the valleys several times and enjoy your videos as they remind us of being there. There's some amazing Church history there in Torre Pellice that I think you and your father might appreciate. Looking forward to seeing the scaffolding and "crane" in action!!

My husband discovered your series in early December. WE ARE HOOKED! The cinematography is incredible, the project unbelievable, and your endless strength and endurance are mind blowing,. I am also always amazed at how you either already know how to do whatever needs to be done, or figure it out in short order and do it! In the episode where your parents were there I saw your dad working on something. That made me wonder if you learned a lot of what you know from him. Did you? Overall a magnificent watch that is so soothing and beautiful it is like being there with you hanging out on the side of that mountain. Can't wait to see what comes next. Keep up the amazing series. One of the best out there as far as we are concerned.

That was a very beautiful video. It appealed to my overwhelming need to clean, tidy and organise. But yet you did that in a very relaxed, laid back way. I know the edits keep a lot out of it but I like your methodical approach to tasks - and yet your very sensible non-completion of a task before the next essential one is tackled. Building in a variety of tasks is really smart - as is downtime on a hike! I am enamoured of the statement that we have been made as human BEINGS and not human DOINGS. I think you are learning to be in the moment and whether it is a new work bench or a stone base for a picnic table or simply shifting 'stuff', you do it in a measured way that I envy. Well done again. Loving the series.
