That is the one reason i got off the road and started running local delivery back in 2005.I didnt want to be the guy that got sick enough to go to hospital 1800 miles from home.luckily didnt happen.retired in 2019 after getting injured.went to hospital in omaha which is about 35 miles from home.a lot closer.Merry Christmas to you and yourstruck stop food,we got ya.

My little brother was taken out of his truck over in Indiana. At the time he was based in Las Cruses, NM. The hospital called our folks and asked permission to disconnect life support. GUYS, DON’T LET INJURIES GO UNATTENDED. Currently 76* at 4:30pm on Christmas Eve. We are at least 10 degrees above normal.

I was in a coma for 4 days in Allentown PA. Pased out when closing trailer doors in Hazelton PA. Was airlifted and spent a month in the hospital. Had kidney failure and now medically retired. My sister flew in from Florida and was with me till I got discharged and drove me home to Chicago. Stay safe out there. Merry Christmas.

I grew up just south of Lake Ontario. When I ran OTR, it was mostly Illinois to the New England states. Snow does not bother me much. The crummy plowing here in WA does, but it is mostly not a big deal. Freezing rain and ice are a whole different situation. I kept on chugging just enough to find a safe spot to hole up, and then what was all.

Kurt, look into the Green APU. I know you're kind of against APUs, but the Green APU also keeps your main engine block warm. For about 10-20% of the fuel usage of idling. It also charges your batteries. It does both heat and air conditioning.

Kurt I want to tell you from life lessons, I have hauled hundreds of loads of pro boxes of seed. I suggest you always secure them in your trailer. Those slick things will walk everywhere and end up where you don’t want them.

Making an observation here, Schmidt I work from Edmonton north if it was that cold, I would idle it up to 11 to 1300 If it’s -40 it will be up around 1500

A lot of van trailer’s have the issue with closing the doors, (when loaded heavy) depending on the location of the tandems. Interesting how the trailer gets out of square the further up the tandems are from the doors.

Dropped my belly dump next to a truck to bob tail into town a while only to return to find it behind yellow tape. Fire dept. & sheriff had arrived in haz-mat suits to remove a driver who'd apparently drank himself to death days before. I was thinking if the driver you saw was in an ambulance, maybe he had better chances of survival?! Used to live for months at a time out of my humble FTL Kurt, while working on wind farm projects (those surrounding Dodge City for example). Been home since covid started & dodged a bullet (heart surgery). It's a tough life out there, brother. You and your beautiful family and all those guys & gals out on the road deserve our prayers, brother. Please take good care, avoid those roller dogs and stay well. God's blessings always!! Allan 😊

If you put a APU on the truck it keeps your coolant warm and batteries charged they even have fuel heaters if your really worried you can find a used thermoking tripac gen one is my favorite but anyway I buy them all the time for a couple thousand then install them just a different perspective from another driver
