I am grateful to live in a country that allowed us to have a meaningful lent. Parish recollections are scheduled during lent. Our "world" in the Philippines stops during Paschal Triduum. No work/school from Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday and majority of business establishements are closed. Back in the day when there weren't any tv apps, local channels and radio stations rest as well except for Jesus shows that aired for a few hours. Maundy Thursday is for 7 last words and washing of the feet in every Catholic church then we visit 7 churches to pray and venerate the Altar of Repose. Good Friday is veneration of the cross and remaining open businesses close for at least an hour starting at 3pm . Black Saturday is easter vigil. I appreciate this more now that I have gotten older.

That's really cool! It's mind-blowing, thinking the kind of overhaul that would be needed for that here in the States. For years, I've heard of how the businesses used to be closed on Sunday. I've never heard of anything like that level of dedication in what you described here.

I guess it's because the Philippines is about 85% Catholic and these practices are deeply rooted in our culture. We just celebrated 500 years of Catholicism here last 2021. What I have described are just some of what we do during the lenten season. It's really a time off to focus on nourishing our soul. I used to take it for granted in my youth and find it boring because there was nothing else on tv except for Jesus films that do not show the actor's face, haha. But of course we also respect major religious events of our brothers & sisters from other religions. Part of our legal holidays is not just the Paschal Triduum. For example, the Ramadan is also a holiday here to give our muslim brothers and sisters focus to observe it. God bless!

Here in Oxnard, group of pro-life led by students of Thomas Aquainas College will walk from Sacred Heart Church from Saticoy to Planned Parenthood in Ventura with young students taking turns in carrying the cross while praying the Rosary and Stations of the Cross for the unborn/victims of abortion and for those who work at the clinic. This is a yearly event during Holy Week. Thursday next week after Ash Wednesday, we are walking from Ventura County Government Center several blocks to Planned Parenthood to support 40 Days for Life. A mass will be celebrated at Mary Magdalene in Camarillo for the commencement of 40 Days for Life on Tuesday. May God heal our brokenness and grant us the grace doing His Holy will for the good and salvation of our souls. Have a Godnight everyone.

As far as book stores go for real traditional Catholic faith nothing is better than tan books as far as Bibles go nothing better then the d o u w a y version the Bible the reformers hated Saint Jerome got down on his knees and prayed before he started interpreting I want every word to come from the Holy Ghost not one word from me he knew Aramaic Latin Hebrew and Greek he was taught by rabbis nothing is watered down like they do today real acts of Lent has to do with suffering no water down Catholic faith I remember Fox Theater in our city showed a bad movie well our principal Sister Mary Cordell found out about it so she and two other nuns decided to go down and talk to the owner she would not take a ride all three walked and it was long about 17 miles downtown while walking they prayed the Rosary all the way up and back it was dark when they got back but the owner promised never to show a bad picture again and he kept in touch with the principal she was a small n u n But Mighty so from then on they always listed in the back of church all the movies that were showing at the show houses listing the one that you can see and the ones that you are not allowed to see we were not taught any water down Catholicism Lucifer working through liberals watered-down are Catholic Books watered-down our Catholic faith and watered down our clergy

And so people become enemies of God when they are controlled by their human nature; for they cannot obey God's law, and in fact they cannot obey it. Those who obey their human nature cannot please God Mark 7:7; Matthew 15:9 It is NO use for them to WORSHIP me, BECAUSE they TEACH HUMAN rules as THOUGH they were MY laws!

the last few shows it looked like u guys were half drunk during taping. Very loud and boisterous and not showing soberness. Things to tell us about lent...why is it called that? what, if anything, does it celebrate? Is it scriptural? Seriously you guys just fail to cover the basics. I just keep hearing year after year talking about it but no one actually EXPLAINS it.
