Don't forget that there are paramedic prep classes. These help expose you to med math, ALS meds, ECG rhythms, etc. Also take an A&P course. Knowing how the body systems work will help understand the process of diseases and medical conditions you will encounter in the field, and to identify they correct treatments.

When I first went into my county's fire academy, where they do both EMS and firefighting, I went in with zero experience. I'd never even taken a blood pressure before. The pacing was hard and you're being bombarded with new information constantly, to the point where it feels like you're trying to drink from a water cannon. I tell myself that if I could give advice to anyone going into a similar type of fast paced academic setting it would be to try to acquire as much knowledge as possible before you start. That way you've at least seen the information before and can be prepared to absorb it more easily, rather than hearing it for the very first time in that high-speed learning environment.

Oof. Yeah the whole family thing, is difficult. They really don't understand, and get frustrated that I don't spend as much time with them. Really hit me in the feels when you mentioned that.

This saying is stupid. You take care of each other and the patient together as well. Hate when ppl try to undermine emts.

Hey, I am I high school, I have taken Med Term, Currently Taking Patho, A&P, Health Science Theory, and I spent tons of time outside of school to learn and practice the components of EMT-B and gotten BLS and Stop the bleed certifications, I am also taking Pharm and dual credit EKG next year during my senior year, what other types of information should I start learning while I’m in high school to fully prepare myself for EMT/Paramedic School?

Hey! So I know its depending on Paramedic School but it usually ranges from 6-7 months of EMT experience (usually with an ambulance company) or at least 1,200 hours. SO yes might be cutting it close

Hey Evan. Been watching your videos for a while, i'm about four weeks into my EMT course with the overall end goal being to become a paramedic and explore other branches of the emergency medicine (flight, tac, etc). I am looking into paramedic school and am wondering if you know what it's like or know students/coworkers who worked on an ambulance while getting their paramedic schooling done? What's it like? is it doable? Do you recommend attempting to go part time instead of full time for work? Do you think 911 ambulance or more basic transfer type ambulances would be better? I'd ideally want to be on a 911 ambulance, personally, but aside from prepping early with your video vault and other materials i'd like to be best prepared. The job i have now isn't what I want to be doing while i go for paramedicine, so what are the best options for me once i get EMT cert?
