I appreciate you as a mum content creator so much! To hear someone else talk about the dynamic between partners changing makes me feel so seen. One of the biggest strains in my relationship since having my daughter is the mental work load I’ve taken on as a mother and how her dad just doesn’t seem to understand. I didn’t ever think I’d have to be a naggy girlfriend… it’s either that or I bottle it up until I explode. Sometimes I want to just purposefully not do any of the housework just to see if he notices but I couldn’t cope with the mess 😂 thank you for speaking about this because I too feel like I’m going crazy sometimes! 💘

It’s such a shift but so unfortunate. Every single mam friend I have has struggled with the same thing. The only advice I’ve gotten is to get a cleaner and it stops the arguing, although not really an option for everyone I suppose it’s cheaper than counselling 🤣🤣

What you said about Soldier Sailor was very evocative. It reminded me of a study I read about how men are so much more likely to abandon their female partners who are terminally ill or require long term care, compared to how women are far more likely to stick with their sick partner and take care of everything. It actually was a thought that crossed my mind before my last break up - would he take care of me if I got sick? Would he dress me and feed me and clean me, every day if he needed to? The same way I would for him? Would he handle everything and be sweet and kind? And the instinctual answer was no.

@6:59 I was LITERALLY just talking about that study where women can survive once their husbands pass away whereas statistically men are more likely to die soon after their wife does, or if they do survive they're similarly more likely to remarry because they "need" a woman in their life. The only problem was I was in a room with men (one of them was a psychiatrist) and if I was to say the atmosphere became very defensive I would be understating it.

I feel like bc theres a time limit until the next book, it motivates me to read so much more. In 2023 I read around 6 books (fair enough i was doing the leaving cert for half the year) but so far in 2024 i've read 7!! In only a month and a bit!!! v v proud of myself + grateful for the book club

Omg truth! The resentment can build between housework and the woman’s life being shook up completely. I had to explain so many times to my babys da d about this cause of how lost I felt, I think I’ve started to slow down in terms of not rushing to make a dinner or clean or do everything and actually let him help me out on his days off otherwise I’ll lowkey blow a fuse and unfortunately if you do EVERYTHING then your setting yourself up because it will always be expected by anyone

@@shonacostelloI feel the same ❤ my husband tries so hard to be understanding but it’s never ending. It’s such a societal thing too, like my female colleague offered me a bag of toddler clothes the other day, some my husbands colleagues who have babies and they asked him to ask me if we needed clothes!! I wrote and produced an audio drama called “Mam” that is based on the extra unpaid labour that women are expected to do. It was a 15 minute piece that followed a Mam just simply wanting to have a cup of tea, but never gets it because she is too busy tending to others. I actually can’t listen to it now I’ve made it because I just get riled hahah

I grew up with a mum and dad who genuinely split things down the middle. Before he met my mum, my dad was a single dad to my 3 older brothers. So by the time I came along he was a pro in domestic work and childcare. I grew up naively assuming that all men would be like that, how wrong I was. I had no idea how rare it is for men to even help w domestic tasks. So many married women have told me about their lives and I'm genuinely horrified regularly. Most women, esp in Ireland, are totally seen and used as domestic slaves. Once you have a child, society places alllllll of the responsibility on you. You are no longer seen as a person, you're now a domestic live in slave. I also feel like Ireland in particular can be so backwards with regards gender roles and norms. We have generations of religious people who still hold onto slut shaming, competing w other women, upholding the patriarchy directly and openly. I feel so bad saying it but it's true, it's really really hard here for girls and women, especially mothers, whether they're single or in a relationship, or single in a relationship. I could ramble all day about it, I don't have kids, at the minute I just want to be there for my friends who have kids cause it's bloody hard and they don't get enough credit! You and your family look happy, healthy and beautiful ☺️ Yous are rich asf as long as you have eachother ❤
