I was at one of my local nurseries here in Olympia, Washington last month and stumbled across this beautiful plant. I bought three of them; two I put in big pots and one is going in the ground. So thankful to have this information.

Thank You for this video we bought 2 just before winter ready for this year. With the cold weather we’ve just had ( in Portishead, about 10 days) it looks quite dead but listening to what you have said I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will come back. Brill video! 🌸

Thank you for posting this very helpful information. I just received one from my sister that has brown stems. I've planted it and will cut back the stems in late February/early March in hopes of having beautiful blooms after that.

Awesome! I'm in love with Gauras yet I know so little about them and I really find it VERY HARD to trim, in fact butcher, all these wonderful stems dancing so gracefully in the air-OMG how am I going to part from them? It gives me the chills already...Yet I will absolutely do whatever's good for my Gauras. And I place MY TRUST in you Rosy. Thank you very much from Greece!

Wow I have been looking to figure out how to trim this plant I love it flowers are still blooming it’s alittle more thin but didn’t know when I should cut it. We in October ending soon I would think I should go around and cut everything now before it’s too cold.

So after the February cut to the ground, can you 'Chelsea Chop' the new growth around May time for a slightly later more compact growth with shorter flowering stems? Or should I just leave it? And if I prune after flowering can I get a second flush? Cheers PS. Love your videos.

One of my favourite plants since discovering it a couple of years ago. Was frightened to cut it to ground level as per the tag on the pot but this has given me confidence. Do you think now (early April) is too late to cut to ground level?

Hi Rosie, A gaura lover here. Moved to zone 9A and planted a few to see how they'd do. They did not like the very hot summer so I cut them back. They made it through. A little frost damage in Dec but they are still with me. My Q: they now have very woody stems. Should I cut them way back, take cuttings or leave them alone. Thanks.

In my climate (Finland) I cannot leave the gaura out for the winter. I grew my gaura out of seed this spring, they are now in my border. In order to save them from the winter, I suppose I have to dig them out and put in a pot. How would you advise me to get them through the winter? Temperature, light and water requirements?

My question as well! We get into the low 30s here in Northern California. It made it thru last winter so I think it’ll be ok. Best of luck to you!
