I thought pruning lavender like this was an August job. Good to know you can do it in October too. When would you consider it too late in the year to cut back like this, please?

Thank you. I have newish 'non woody' lavender which I want to prune but thought I'd left it a bit late in the year but seeing as you posted this time last year and were wearing a big coat, I reckon I'll be OK if I do it at the weekend. Much appreciated, your video is very informative, I'll be merciless!

I found this most useful as I also have santolina that is getting very large and needs to be cut right back. I have a large area and have used my hedge trimmer to cut it back but I really like your long nosed pruners. I think they will also be good for deadheading throughout the summer growing season for my other shrubs. Can you please recommend a make and size for the ones you are using in this video please

Do you prune your lavender again in spring? Or is this a "once a year" strategy?
@sandralangford127811 ай бұрын
Help, I planted my lavender hedge in early September so it’s been in the ground for 2 months. It is now November should I cut it back now or wait to early spring to make them more established? Many thanks

What if I pruned my lavender in the fall the first way you showed (just a slight trim). Is it okay to do it the correct way you demonstrated- now that it is March? Or is it too late to trim more vigorously now that it’s almost spring again. Or does it all have to be done once/year.

Hi Rosey, thanks for your great videos. I recently moved into a house with lots of very woody unpruned Lavender. I pruned down to new spring growth but am I stuck with all that old wood now? If I prune low in autumn will I lose them? Thank you.
@juliashearer78429 ай бұрын
Watching and very much enjoying your videos but I disagree with this method of pruning. I leave more of the plant overwinter because it is structural and evergreen and then in spring I cut back as far down as possible to keep compact. I prefer to have something to look at overwinter. 😊

I am in the California heat and have survived the last heatwave, but 2 of my Phenomenal varietals look like they caught root rot. I water twice a week, very little each time, but looks like too much. Any way to save the plant without removing it from the ground? Most of the branches have gone grey, but aren't yet dry.

How do you approach pruning of you would like the hedge to be fairly tall? Do you then just allow it to get woody for a while?

@Mortthemoose2 жыл бұрын
Hi. It would be helpful to say whereabouts you are in the uk. eg.. it's mid Sep here at 56°N in Perthshire, Scotland, and the bees are still on the Lavender flowers, so I wouldn't want to prune them. Whilst England and Wales have had a non stop heatwave this year (2022), it been raining non stop for weeks here. The flowers from other plants have literally been battered to death by this year's heavy rain, so there's not many flowers for the bees, butterflies and other insects. Pruning is a difficult one, if you are growing to help wildlife. They need seedheads, shelter, and nectar. My Lavender is usually a favourite shelter for Toads to hide under. Thank you anyway...Most videos on Lavender forbid cutting into older wood, but I select 1-2 bits every year to prune hard, and the bush is still looking good. It's now about 13 years old.
