Quick tip for those who made it to the comments. Don’t rinse your rain with cold water after the boiling process. You want to let the millet sit for a good 5 minutes in the strainer to get all the excess moisture out. Then pour the warm grain on a towl. Doing it this way your grain will be dry and perfectly ready to jar in one hour rather than 8.

Thank you for your added expertise! I will try this next time

@@MyterialWorld Yeah np I learned the tek from fungaia! The warm moisture on each kernel of the grain will evaporate quickly as steam, leaving a dry outer surface with plenty moisture still

@@yorks6181much love for Fungaia! I got my flow hood from them. Happy cultivating

Just found your video and i wanted to ask if you skip the part where a lot of others keep their jars in the pot after the boil for atleast 8 hours? I've seen some others do it and other don't

I haven’t followed any super specific rules with the jars being kept in the pressure cooker other than keeping in mind the jars can’t be inoculated until they’re down to room temp. Usually I’m curious how they turn out so I remove the lid and take the jars out of the PC and look at them (with an oven glove or when they’re cool enough to handle). I sometimes remove the lid as soon as the pressure valve is released! After this whole grain process I usually take a break and inoculate a day or so after preparing the grain. Be mindful and tenacious, but don’t rush 😊

Dont you have to "purge" the pressure cooker before putting the weight on? Which is to say bring the water to a boil with the lid on, wait until you see a steady stream of steam coming out of the port (the thing you put the weight on), then set a timer for 10 minutes. Then, once that 10 minutes is up, put the weight on, bring it to pressure, and THEN set your 90 minute timer?

I’d never thought about that timing with the additional 10 mins! Thanks for your input. You have a great point. I just put the weight on when I feel like it, because I don’t think it affects the pressure building. I usually set the 90 minute timer once it gets to 15psi

@@MyterialWorld Well yeah, the time is what I'm getting at. Like, would the extra 10 minutes cause grains to split, and would that mean that I would have to boil them for less time before jarring? Wanted to know your thoughts on that.
@MyterialWorld5 ай бұрын
@@johnconti1329there’s some flexibility with extra PC time as long as you have enough water in the pressure cooker. My grains have only split in the PC when I’ve gone over time in the + didn’t have water to compensate for that. They start to cook in that case. They’re much more likely to split if you over-boil them. Watch them like a hawk. Be obsessive. Take notes and find your groove

If you're going to boil it, then you dont really need to soak it.

I’ve tried it all kinds of methods and this is the most consistent for me. Do whatever works for you!

'Actually', soaking for 24 hours forces contamination to germinate and increases your odds of successfully sterilizing the grain.
