Hello everyone,
In this episode of “Making home in a new country” you will see how we prepared our abandoned garden for our first growing season.
One thing that me and my husband are aiming for here in Italy is to learn to live closer to nature. In the long term we hope to build up a small homestead. The house where we live now will most likely not be our forever home. So, we will use this waiting room as a classroom (I’m quoting Jessica Sowards from Roots and Refuge Farm here) and learn step by step how to grow food, keep animals and use the products off of the land, whilst producing as little waste as possible. We accept this to be a process of years, of little steps at the time.
First, we have to clear our garden from the overgrown plants and nurse the suffering perennial plants back to health.
We also plan to keep a small vegetable garden this year, which we hopefully will expand in the next years. In this first year we want to experience how everything grows under the care of our hands, in this soil and in this warm climate, without overwhelming ourselves. As the house that we live in still requires some work and we also have jobs.
Other projects for this year will be to keep chickens for eggs and for me personally I wish to grow some cutting flowers.
Later, during the growing season I can film a garden tour where you can see how and where everything is growing. So, if you are interested in that, you can let me know in the comments!
We also finished renovating our kitchen, so somewhere in April you can expect a video on that!
Thank you for watching, and I wish you a lovely day!
