Preparing Picturesque Pomanders || 3 Ways to Make Victorian Inspired Pomanders for Christmas

A video two weeks in a row? It’s a Christmas miracle! Actually I was feeling nostalgic about making pomanders as a kid with my mom, and wanted to try making them again some...20+ years later.
I had a lot of fun looking at the history of pomanders as I was looking through tutorials to refresh my memory. These are great as an addition to a Christmas centerpiece, or in a decorative bowl on their own.
Materials needed:
Oranges, as fresh as possible
Whole cloves
Toothpicks
Ribbon (optional)
Permanent marker (optional)

Okay, slight edit/update to the instructions as the first 3-4 tutorials I read through didn’t include this important piece of info, and I only found out a few days I made these. If you want to dry and preserve your pomanders, either to use as a long term decoration, or as a gift - put them in a paper bag once they’re made, and store them in a dark room until they are fully shrunken and dry. Otherwise, if you keep them out as a decoration, they will last about 4-5 days.

I used to help my grandmother make these (wish I knew about the pilot holes, my memories of my thumb hurting for days after). She used them to keep the cloth moths away. It didn't get rid of them, but according to her the smell made the wool less attractive so the moths wouldn't find it.

That's lovely! I tried a couple cloves with just my fingers and it made me want to get a thimble lol! I have heard that a lot of people used them for keeping moths away!

Takes me back to my childhood and making them with mum, though I'm pretty sure baby powder also came into it as well. Mum kept hers in her wardrobe for years.
