Great info, its what I've been looking for to implement in to my project. I have a lot of sand in my yard to remove. Question, is it necessary to remove all the sand before laying down my 4" limestone base that I will compact? Thank you for the videos.

My wife is eager for me to set up our 14 ft above ground pool. I want to do it right so I'm using what I've been learning from watching your channel. I originally wad going to lay down a layer of ¾ stone. But I'm thinking a layer of sand gravel mix would be better to pack down for a base. I have quite a bit hand sifting yard sand as I excavate to where I need to be. #HardWorkPaysOff

So do you not have to lay 3/4 inch (clean) crushed aggregate before putting down the steps? Or is that just for brick patios?

Ever use type s mortar mix with clay sub soils?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 6 ай бұрын
I haven't, but I have heard of others doing it. Not sure I would do that though. I know it is meant to stiffen the sub soil but it really prevents drainage even more. With heavy clay, the best bet is to dig deeper and divert the water to a lower area with a french drain.

Hello. I’m in the process of laying natural 2” thick limestone stepping stones for my sidewalks. I dug out the area 10” deep, laid a 6” 411 base (limestone with 3/4-1/4” which also has stone dust) Plate compacted it to a 1/8 pitch. I then laid 1/4” gravel using the 1-1/4” pipe and smoothed it out before laying the stepping stones. The natural limestone stepping stones are approximately 2 to 2-1/2” thick and range around 14”-18” x 20”-30” My soil beneath the 411 and 1/4” gravel is primarily sandy. Do you think my base will be ok for Michigan weather? In the winter we get to about zero to -20° F. Also. What would you recommend to use for filling in the joints? And should I use a plate compactor on top the the stepping stones? Love your videos. You guys do awesome work and I laugh at you both. Keep up the great work

Hello, Me and my husband are in the middle of installing pavers for out patio and building some stairs. We are having trouble with what exact material we need for our barrier (the fabric underneath the crushed stone). We have purchased the Agfabric 4 ft. x 100 ft. Ground Cover Heacy Non-Woven Weed Barrier Fabric for Gardening Mat and Raised Bed online in the home depo site and we have been waiting fr a couple of weeks to arrive which have caused out project to be delayed. We were wondering what other alternative type you can advise us to purchase instead something that I’m able to purchase possibly in person at a store here in Arkansas. ps. I'm not sure if i found it in one of your videos that the fabric supposed to be non woven or not but need advise on what other brands types you recommend. will like my patio to last a long time :) Karina

Hello, sounds like a fun project! I use a fabric that is woven and it is called geotextile soil separation fabric. It is made with strands of plastic, woven together. It is string and permeable for water to travel through. Here is link to the exact fabric I use 👉srwproducts.com/products/fabric/woven/ Not sure if it is available near you, but if not, you may be able to find something comparable. I would look around at some landscape / masonry supply stores in your area, they will most likely have something like that in stock. Good luck! ✌

3/4 stone prices have gone sky high..In my area its around $85-90 per yard. Could you please recommend any cheaper option without compromising the quality? Thank you!!
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Wow, that is very expensive.... I'm not too sure about other options. There aren't really any other material options that will give you what 3/4 stone does.

@@TheChristianHardscaper What about using Gator base? That is not cheap though but atleast it will save some time
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I never recommend the gator base. Pavers can vary in height of up to 1/4" some times... So when you set them in a bedding material, you can hammer them into place and level them off. When you lay pavers on the gator base, you will see all those height differences and there is not much you can do about it...

@@TheChristianHardscaper That's very good information. Thank you. What about using decomposed granite (DG)? My contractors use it both as base and bedding material they put pavers directly on it.
