my 87 yr old dad gardens 2/3 of an acre each year. the last few years, he put up an electric fence around parts of it due to the raccoons eating his many plantings of corn. no bears in Indiana but coons are a serious problem. I put in 24 of those posts this summer. mine were so solid that once I got it in...no chance of movement.
@NewEnglandWildlifeAndMore Жыл бұрын
I feel like raccoons are a creature that might be a problem like figuring out a way to climb in or digging underneath, I can't imagine how bad the raccoon issue must be in Indiana when I was driving across the country a few months ago I've never seen so many raccoons dead in the road in my life, I wish we had that many raccoons cuz I think they're a sweet animal but I haven't had then be a pest yet so am I thinking might change. Thanks for watching

Isn't it a shame what's going on in this country now as it used to be the products you would buy were the Envy of the world and good quality. Back in New Jersey where I'm from, Northern New Jersey to be specific along the Ramapo mountains, my father had his father's or my grandfather's McCulloch chainsaw made in 1947 and it still runs great.

Hi post 10, take that tiller back and get a rear tine tiller, they actually will dig up your soil and give you a lot more depth. I use to sell tillers and lawn equipment and those front tillers don't do what you want out of a tiller, they will give the user a heck of a workout but they disappoint in tilling. You will be amazed in the difference in the two tillers. Love everything you do, so keep on posting video's and I'll keep watching. 😀

Instead of burning how about building a hulaga?, Bury the branches underground or heap soil on top, the branches would help retain moisture for the garden above it. How about planting spinach and carrots now under plastic hoops for spring harvest?

If you want to get serious with the rototiller you might want to look for a rear-tine unit that is self propelled. They are so much easier to use and do a better job. Great video!
@post.102 жыл бұрын
Yes this one was obviously broken and I believe it had worn out piston rings and that's why it was spitting oil. I returned it I'm planning on getting what you just described next year, they have a nice one that's self-propelled for about 800 instead and it's much heavier so it will probably do better with ripping out roots and grass

I would recommend buying an older tiller on the local market. Probably cheaper and certainly much better quality than the new ones

Been saving this video to watch as a treat. Can't wait to see how the spring planting goes as I plan on expanding my garden this year as well in a similar climate in Ontario. Maybe you can use slices of those logs as temporary stepping stones for the wet season. A little hoop tunnel could be nice for getting a head start on spring planting, and the hoops can also be used to hold shade cloth if it gets too hot in summer.

Your using regular garden poles, you need to go to a farm implement store to get the heavy T-Posts and always hit the top of the post and not the spade part of the post. The spade part of the post and after a couple of years in the ground will almost be impossible to pull out. My T-Post has been in the ground for 10 years and I wanted to pull out a couple post and I had to saw them at ground level because they would just would not come out.

Nice garden. I agree with you on the Craftsman tiller, actually all Craftsman products are 100% complete cheap junk, & it's really sad because when i was young in the late 60's & 70's Craftsman & Kenmore was some of the best products you could buy. Great job on getting that started! I went raised bed last year on my newest gardens. Didn't want to deal with that tiller work and so far so good. I totally agree, also, about expensive fencing and crappy posts. 90% of my posts failed completely at the weld and I just put them in anyway. Wire is up something like 250% which is outrageous! I am guessing you are Zone 4a or 4b?
@NewEnglandWildlifeAndMore Жыл бұрын
I am right on the edge of growing zone four and five but that depends what map you look at, our safe growing season is typically between June 1st through September but often I can start planting in May. We usually get pretty hard Winters with an entire month below zero at night. I didn't think of it but next time I buy posts I'm going to get T posts that they use typically for electric fences around animal enclosures they're very strong and supposedly cheap
