I like rugs best, as they get dirty after time in summer they can be washed with the hose and dry on Hot Days!...Can be replaced after 4-5 years for a new look, so you did well getting rugs.

DEF LEPPARD - I agree! Design rule of thumb is to center the rug and put the front legs of the sofa and the recliner on the rug. It’ll feel much more balanced. Love the color choices! Your home will be beautiful.

Kitty ran right to the leather couch,the familiar piece to him from home & ran under! I love the hardwood floors versus carpet! Carpets are wonderful-soft & warm to have & walk on but so hard to keep clean,& holds dirt & smells! Even with vacuuming & cleaning. Plus the extra hard work! And vacuuming stirs dirt up in the air!

You don't want to mop those hardwoods floors with water. Too much and they will buckle and warp. There are special products to squirt on and mop, like with a swiffer. I really the "compromise" of an "area rug" (carpet is wall-to-wall) on top of the hardwoods. Like Elizabeth said, "Just like a cozy farmhouse". I'm so happy for you guys.

There is a rubber rug padding that is super thin that keeps our area rugs from slipping. You can cut it to what you need. It reminds me of a dish drain pad with holes in it. Hope this helps. It is in the rug section of either HD or Lowe’s type store. If you put double backing tape on the corners of your rugs, it will mark up your beautiful hardwood floors, eventually. Ask me how I know. Smiles.

It looks absolutely gorgeous! I once read an article by Rose Wilder Lane that said every day of her life, her mother, Laura Ingalls Wilder, got up early to watch the sunrise on her farm in Mansfield, MO. Laura said each sunrise was different. I remember when I moved to lower AL, I, a Wisconsinite, was amazed that you could be out the door and down the stairs before they finished saying "thank yew". I miss my southern friends!

I quite enjoyed Leo cat's reaction to the heater kicking on. Bill, your cough has been nagging at me for several videos and I finally figured out why. My dad had a similar tiny, inconsistent, and inconspicuous cough which ended up being a precursor to a heart/lung condition called congestive heart failure (CHF). There are several places online like the MayoClinic where CHF symptoms are listed. If you do not believe your cough is the result of allergies or the cold weather, please get to a doctor and have the cough checked.

Sometimes, the sunsets were pink and orange all over too. I could see a nice back deck possibly. Pop could join you with some flower pots or outdoor reading nook.

Back yards and decks or not are kind of flexible. But to me the house looked like a front porch is missing. Even though the NW tends to be a bit cooler I still get pretty good use of my porch. Met some very cute dogs walking their people..

I'm loving everything. Green is my favorite color. I love the rug in the livingroom. It's a blessing you got the house to take care of your Dad. I took care of my mom and dad and my grandmother. I lost all three of them within nine months in 2012. I was devastated. I'm am so glad though that I was able to be with them. I'm an only child so I had a lot of responsibilities. My Grandmother always had 2 things in her kitchens, where ever she lived. A clock that was a cat that the tail moved from side to side and pale yellow walls! It was her signature. One of the things I like to do before moving into a house is painting the inside of the closets. It’s easier to do it while they’re still empty and putting my clothes into a fresh white space is so nice

So happy for you and really like your paint colours! So fresh and pretty! May I make a teeny, weeny suggestion about the living room rug? Scootch it over so there is an even border along the sides and back wall - this will do a few things, practical and one designer-ish: by moving it over there will be bare floor from door to kitchen and thus you will prevent a track developing in your lovely new rug as a result of the traffic flow (It's easier to mop up a floor from dirty outdoor shoes as well). It would also define and cozy up the space for the furniture grouping. I know you didn't want to lift the sofa and chair to accommodate the rug, but doing so would secure the rug in place and help keep the easy chair from sliding back on the otherwise slick floor every time it's sat upon. Just a thought. :-)

I recommend getting anti-skid rug pads. We have two area rugs with these in our family room, and the rugs don't move and are more cushioned. You don't want your dad or Elizabeth taking a fall. What kind of heat do you have? Love your new home and especially the large lot and views! Our cat Maggie looks just like Leo.

I really like the paint colors and rugs. Bill, Wal-Mart has outlet insulator's that fit perfect and immensely keep our cold air. You get quite a bit for like $5.00 or so. They also include light switch insulator's all are precuts

Right On. Since I have a semi open floor plan my contractors, knowing my background redid my hardwood floors and got a wonderful villa style motif multi color green rolled linoleum bathroom floor, retouched up the green wainscoting and painted all my walls a Navaho White. For me, it's perfect.
