i used water color paints on a Merry Christ wood decoration. I did not paint the small sides of the decoration, let it dry for 2 days. i poured pro clear resin over the decoration and 30 seconds later the wooden decoration began to bubble and i could not pop the bubbles with a tooth pic. what can be done to correct the problem, help

Could you use something cheaper to seal the faces of wood, like shellac, and then seal the edge with table top? 8oz per board seems like an expensive way to seal.

I like the idea of allowing the seal coat anchor down the wood but it appears sanding to rough up the seal coat for the deep pour would invite dust particles in the final pour? Any insight on this? Thanks,

use compressed air and a vacuum to get the dust off of the piece.

Hi, I just purchased the Amazing Clear cast to cover a bar table top. I plan to seal it and the 2nd layer will be a flood. The instructions says to use a mist of rubbing alcohol on top of the fresh poured epoxy to get rid of the bubbles. I see in your video that you are using a torch. Will a torch work as good as alcohol with this application?
@AlumiliteCorporation4 жыл бұрын
Yes, a torch will work great! You can use alcohol mist just the same - you just want to be careful and make sure it's a very fine mist spray. Too much alcohol will cause the epoxy to dimple. With a torch, you won't have to worry about that!

Where do you find the wood for tables?
@TrevorPottelbergPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Being that you coated them piece ahead of time to seal it, do you end up sanding that off during the finishing process so that you can apply an oil/wax finish?
@AlumiliteCorporation3 жыл бұрын
If you're going for a more exposed wood look, then you would want to approach your project a bit differently than in this video. This method is more for makers that are going to eventually give the piece a full top-coat of epoxy!

Thanks for the informational stuff. I want to ask (my english speaking level isn't much high) cause i didn't get it. You used the same epoxy resin for sealing as you used for pouring ?
@AlumiliteCorporation3 жыл бұрын
Yes! We did a very thin layer of epoxy all over the wood to seal it. Then we waited for it to cure and did our actual pour with the same epoxy. If you want a faster seal coat, you can use our Amazing Quick Coat to seal the wood and then use Amazing Deep Pour for your actual pour.

Curious how well with the deep pour bond to the clear cast?
@raafat19753 жыл бұрын
hi, thanks for the instructions, but how much time should we wait before we pour the main epoxy project
@AlumiliteCorporation3 жыл бұрын
Great question! It depends - if you are using a different epoxy product to pour the main project then you will want to wait for the seal coat to cure completely! If you are using the same product for both steps, then you can pour after a few hours (depends on the product) when the seal coat is a bit tacky! Just remember: never mix two different product formulas together! It can cause really negative reactions!

Hello, What would you use for epoxy to not stick down? I see tuck tape? Does lining your wood base with this tape allow the epoxy to not stick? Thank you!

did you sand the live edge to scuff it up so the deep pour adheres better?
@AlumiliteCorporation4 жыл бұрын
That's an awesome question, Matt! We sand the live edge as an extra precaution to make sure that we've removed the entire cambium layer so there's no chance of our pour snapping or falling off once done!

Should we apply water seller on wood before epoxy project? Is it necessary? Is it good or bad. How we avoid moisture effect from epoxy project? Please answer .

First, you should make sure the wood is dry (by using a wood moisture reader) then you can apply the epoxy seal coat. We wouldn't recommend using a water sealer.

I know I’m late to the party but does the wood have to be dried (in kiln or air dry) before sealing it with epoxy or will the epoxy take care of that?
@Stu813 жыл бұрын
Yes it needs to be dry, moisture % needs to be very low, not just because of the epoxy but wet/fresh timber will expand, contract and split while drying therefore can cause weakness between the timber and resin as the resin will not move with the timber.
@jencstephens54524 жыл бұрын
Can you seal with the epoxy and then use alumilite slow on top of it? You are right, us turners end up spending a lot of money stabilizing wood, and if this would work to skip that step, my wallet would really appreciate it.
@AlumiliteCorporation4 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as the epoxy is fully cured before you pour your Alumilite Slow! After letting the seal coat cure, we recommend lightly sanding the surface to allow for better adhesion!!

Can I use shellac or lacquer prior Alumilite slow cure? I’m primarily doing hybrid blanks and curing under pressure. I’m wondering if the epoxy will react badly to the shellac or lacquer. Also, I have stabilized with cactus juice, but the wood still has large pours or holes, so I’d like to seal it completely prior to pouring.
@AlumiliteCorporation3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Our Clear Slow is a urethane resin and will react badly with any moisture or water-based products! As long as the shellac or lacquer don’t contain water (and you let it dry completely before adding the resin) you should be fine!
