Thank you for such an informative video yet again. We have had a chat before when I was planning to come to the UK and now when I have just arrived here, I have to ask you this since I follow your channel for all the help- Now I am in UK as a ST3 trust grade respiratory doctor. I have completed 2 years of respiratory diploma from India and worked as an ICU registrar for 6 months and 3.5 years as a respiratory consultant in India. I perform bronchoscopes and Thoracoscope’s which I have trained in from India itself. I have nothing else with me on my Cv apart from my experience (no research, no audits, no posters). I am appearing for both MRCP 1 and 2 this year hopefully and looking at applications for training this year in November, 2024. How do you think I should proceed? How can I make the best use of this year preparing for exams and getting involved in building up my CV, etc? And will I be able to enter training at ST3 level with my profile? Thank you,
@SumanPaulDoc

Thanks for your comment. You should spend this year trying to score marks for each of the domains of application scoring and maximise your chances of success. You definitely need audit, full MRCP, teaching and conference presentation.

Sir, If I completed my MD medicine in India,will I have to repeat IMT(int. Medicine training) again in UK? Can we be eligible for all ST program without IMT?
@SumanPaulDoc

In a way IMT is equivalent to MD medicine. So you can apply for ST4 training after MD. But you have to get alternative core competency form signed by a consultant.I have not repeated IMT/CMT in UK and gone straight to higher specialty training.

Hi Dr. Suman, thank you very much for taking the time and making this video. This is probably the best video I've seen on detailing the Oriel application. I have a few questions and would be very happy if you could answer them - 1. How is an Indian MD scored for Postgraduate degree there ? I have an MD in Internal Medicine in India and apart from a mandatory thesis, I have also had the opportunity to publish original research (non PubMed journal) and 2 case reports in BMJ Global Health ? Does this count as a research degree or and will I get full points here ? 2. Now that I have both MBBS and MD as medical degrees, can I show my MD as my primary medical degree now ? I want to do this because I graduated MD with honors and can show this under additional achievements. Please guide me here. 3. I'm planning to get a diploma in teaching. Does any teaching degree qualify (such as primary and secondary school teaching) or only undergraduate or postgraduate teaching courses are considered ? 4. Lastly, I will be applying to higher specialty training (Rheumatology) this November (2022) and it is unlikely I will have any experience of working in the UK. Will that significantly damage my chances of getting placed ? I'm positively confident that I will have cleared the MRCP PACES (Part 1 and 2 written cleared) by then. Sorry for the lengthy comment but I found your video very helpful and felt you could guide me best on the issues presented above. Sincere thanks and please keep making these videos.

1. Indian MD is Postgraduate degree with research dissertation- you can score for that. Research publications must be PubMed indexed and case reports are not accepted.These rules do change every year so keep an eye out for the latest rules when you apply. 2. MBBS is your PMQ. you cannot change that. 3. Only teaching qualifications (e.g diploma, M.sc) or courses during UG or PG. 4. Not having UK experience will definitely reduce your chances. But still, go for the application. It's a great learning experience.

Sir I am a medical graduate from Kerala. I am currently in my neet preparation during which I came to know about the plab route option. But the issue is owing to the pandemic, everything is delayed, exams getting cancelled, plab 2 not possible due to flight restrictions. So in the meantime is it wise to join a respiratory diploma (diploma of tuberculosis and chest diseases) so that I can utilise my waiting period here. But the scope is research and thesis would be limited. Please note that i have a plab seat booked.

Hi, I can imagine there will be significant backlog and delay due to covid.it is a good idea to join chest diploma and complete plab in the meantime.though you don't have thesis but you can participate in research projects and try to preset some posters or publication.this will be better use of your time rather than waiting for plab 2 date.

1. You will start with registrar grade non training posts in ENT after MRCS. 2. The general pattern for all specialties will be similar and it changes every year.please consult ENT curriculum in royal college website for exact details for ENT. 3. Logbook is compulsory.Most doctors maintain online e-logbook, which you can maintain in India from now. www.elogbook.org/ I will try to prepare one on future.Thanks for watching.
