One of my classmates in AEMT has hearing loss and has to wear hearing aids. She has an EKO Core/Cardiology IV. It can connect to her hearing aids via her phone in much the same way you can use the Core 500 with airpods My mind was blown the first time I saw her use it without the earpieces in. I just finished up my paycheck savings for the EKO Core that I will attach to my Classic III The Core 500 will probably end up being my gift to myself for finishing paramedic school in much the same way my Classic III was for EMT, and my badge reference cards and xShears were for AEMT

Mere 3rd year, almost 4th year, med student here. The Eko core's noise-canceling capability has been beneficial for rotations. Especially cardiology. However, I've found that if you listen through clothes, we know we're not supposed to, if we can help it, it does happen. The noise canceling will sometimes cancel the sounds you are listening for and will sound hushed and muffled. A quick off and back on fixes that, and I haven't had any issues besides that. I like that since it is a Littman cardiology IV; in the worst-case scenario, it's still a Litman cardiology 4 and works great, even if it's dead. I use the app sparingly, though I have used it some. It's just too difficult to use while on rounds in a hospital or in the clinic; it takes too long, but the sound fidelity is excellent. Hope that's helpful.

Great review, I like how you are explaining through the noisy environment. I worked in EMS for 17 years before going into the hospital. We tried early models of amplified stethoscopes that were made of plastic and they picked up everything except the patient. They have come so far. I do like the core but the 500 almost seems like a great upgrade. And I too don’t wear one around my neck. Be safe out there.
@fydofire7 ай бұрын
I had the very first Eko Core, I think it was on Kickstarter. It was even bigger, bulkier and heavier than the current one with less quality. It's also not so easy to connect it to the newer app, so it lost some of it's function. I only use it sometimes for teaching purposes. Can't see much use in a preclinic scenario anymore. I like to have a Core500 but it's too expensive in my eyes. Guess there will be more in the near future. Usually what I recommend for our new paramedics is the Littmann Lightweight II S.E.. It's so light that you actually will carry it, it's not so expensive to get you mad if you loose or break it. The head is very nice for working under the patients cloths if you don't want them to get rid of their cloths just for a quick check of their blood pressure or listen to their lungs. The quality is absolutly sufficient for paramedics in my eyes and I haven't lost a cap yet. You get them in sales for about 45€ in the EU.

would be great if they could make one that's water and dust resistant, seems to only really be usable in clean environments so rescue situations seem to be not in its area of use as well as long term situations we prep for.

5:40 - minor correction - the CORE AI does actually detect murmurs (at least mine has flagged them in red as “murmur detected” for the portion of the exam where it caught it using the PCG). It won’t tell you what kind of murmur though.

@@nickk.a Nope, watch it again at the 5:40 mark: “It’s not going to detect murmurs as far as I know.” His exact words. But it DOES detect murmurs (just doesn’t identify what kind), although Eko just announced a new subscription model, so I guess I’ll have to pay monthly or yearly now to get that and other storage features I think. I also have the core, bought it used. I agree with your assessment the enhanced hearing is really good. But storage is always a problem while wearing scrubs. The best solution was to put the small bell through the triangular hole of the tube, but the the risk of losing small membrane increases😐. I also wish they would put all important function on the interface at the stethoscope. In the app you could switch audio filters between Broad, Heart and Pulmonal. And i actually like these sometimes when trying to hear for breath sounds after Intubation e.g. But to open the app to switch is impractical.

I have both stethoscopes. - EKO, the stethoscope head always comes loose from the amplifier. You have to screw it back in place every now and then. This is why I stop using it. - CORE 500, as you said, the earpiece falls off easily. Sometimes, I bring it out of my pocket and start looking for the earpieces. Out of the two, I'm very pleased with the CORE.

You start learning how to diagnose it by going to school. School will also teach you how to proper defib the heart for different situations. If you waiting to get into school, you don't need to concern yourself about this right now. What you do need to do is get very familiar with the basics, including BLS work and A&P.
