Hi Marie and Calvin I've got one of the military can openers. Nothing worse than not being able to open a can. We have 80 degrees here in NE Arkansas. And the mosquitoes are out and chasing us. My son works at a Dollar General. A lady and her daughter had 2 shopping carts full. She said it is for her pantry. I am always so happy to see people thinking ahead. Now I know what to do with that can of potatoes. Thank you for the video. Anna.

I remember those can openers Calvin was talking about. Little silver thing you could fit in your palm. I used one for years. Just clamp and turn. I love Brunswick stew but would rather have Marie's homemade than Castleberry's canned. Although, for hotdog chili, Castlebury's is the best!! Even in a hurry I'd have to add onions to the beans. I want onions with everything.

Hey Calvin and Marie, I lived down East in Goldsboro, NC in the early 1980's. Brunswick stew is very popular there. I live near Charlotte,NC now. The way I was taught to make the stew was, You added B-B-Q chopped pork, chicken, beef, corn, Lima beans, potatoes, tomatoes, Texas Pete, ketchup. It is sooo good! I haven't made it in years. I need to do a pot of this soon. Hope Y'all have a blessed week with love and blessings.❤️❤️❤️

Awesome great video and choice of foods. I love potato salad and cole slaw. But I cook them maybe twice a year. In a million years I never would thought of using canned potatoes. I for sure will try this very soon along with the Brunswick Stew. I buy the Caslebury beanless chili for hot dogs but I never knew they made the stew until I saw it on your last video. Many thumbs up Stay well and safe. Btw, I love cornbread also.

I make quick stew with canned bbq pork, canned bbq chicken, canned bbq beef, canned diced potatoes, canned butter beans, canned corn, and ketchup. When our power is out, we cook under the carport on the grill or propane hot plate because our appliances are electric. We also keep several manual can openers because they seem to tear up quickly. Cans of stew are good over light bread and Spam is delicious floured and fried to eat between light bread, but the canned food( especially pork and beans and beanie weenies) are good straight from the can.

calvin why did you boil those potatoes that were in a can? They were already cooked sir?
@SouthernCountryLiving3 ай бұрын
In an emergency you wouldn't have to cook them but for us on this meal I like to cook them a little longer so that they are softer. Can potatoes tend to be hard straight out of the can .
