With regard to anything that uses batteries, unless you use the item regularly keep the batteries separate but close by. Over the years I had my torches, radios, etc sitting on a shelf just in case of a powerout only to find that when I came to use them the batteries had corroded.

Hi again Mickey, great vid, nice to now from a man like your self that I am pretty much sorted as I have the majority of the stuff you have for a short time emergency and extra just incase, I also have a really good first aid kit as I used to work as a advanced first aider, as a bonus to your kit why not add a couple of tubes of effervescent multi vitamins to your kit, cheap as chips and make for a nice fizzy orange drink, great for the grand kids, cheers Mickey.

Emergency advice: 1. Clean then fill the bathtub with water if an emergency is coming. 2. Never fear stating the obvious because everyone needs to know the same obvious. 3. The only stupid question is the one you didn't / were scared to ask.

Just found your channel and it’s nice to see sensible advice without the SHTF fear mongering.. HOWEVER- I do disagree with 1 part of your video.. if your sheltering in place putting a note on your door is a good idea but I would not have put your names or how many people are in the house .. a single message saying SHELTERING IN PLACE would have been enough.. by telling people your names and numbers of people you risk tell the wrong types of people information they could use .. if they know 2 people and a dog live here and they are a group of 5 they might pick your home as an easy target.. if you put your names on the note they have your details and address for potential fraud after the emergency event has ended.. sorry to be so negative but data security is importance these days but otherwise a great video and I am now a subscriber 👍😃

I keep a small 90 lumen torch on my person. Not very powerful but only takes one AAA battery & is powerful enough to light my immediate path & see around my house at night. I have candles but worry about their safety & I couldn't use one to search under beds & the back of cupboards etc. Great video btw.
@hampshireoutdoorsandsurviv93402 ай бұрын
enough light to do what you need in a safe manner if i use candles id leave them in a central space just to light the room
@philiphull79192 ай бұрын
Head torches are good for searches under beds etc where you need both hands free.You can get rechargeable ones and solar ones too. And if you want to combine self defence with lighting tactical torches are great, the bigger the better.

@@hampshireoutdoorsandsurviv9340👍🏼I usually put my candles inside a melt burner and lanterns,. N like you say somewhere central,.👍🏼Tin cans with a few holes in the sides are safe too😊be extra careful when hanging em up tho,. Make doubly doubly sure they’re not weak or near the flame n fall down,. And remember NOT to use string while suspending!😂❤

Good to know about the powebank running an apnea machine. I have a bipap ventilator (similar set uo) and have bought an Anker 535, 512Wh to run it in the event of a grid down situation. Never tested it yet but knowing what you’re just said it should last me a good few nights

stock up on the foods you normally eat, rotate the shelves as you add to them and you will avoid long expired canned goods when you get around to trying to eat them. Water, water, water, 4 to 5 gallons per person/day.

Save your cans and make buddy burners with wax and cardboard. You can buy stainless steel utensils holders that are full of holes on the sides and bottom. Line a cake pan with clean sand, sit the buddy burner in it, lit and place the utensils holders over it. Old fashioned oil lamps using cooking oil, olive oil work great with thick cloth or wicks. I thread one inch wicks through stainless steel scrubbers and place in jars of oil, cans of oil. If knocked over, they go right out. The buddy burners are safe inside but if burning things indoors have a few carbon monoxide detectors to bring out and use.
