Hi, I just wanted to say a big thankyou to you and Josh for making these videos. It’s so helpful and insightful as a pianist and amateur tech to see this work done in such detail. The headcam is a genius way to see what you see. I would love to see how you measure drop, let-off and aftertouch etc. Which you probably don’t need to do on this new Steinway but maybe you’ll do it on a future project. Looking forward to episode 12!

Thank you for your encouragement! I measure drop and let-off by sight and feel most of the time. Another way to do let-off when starting from scratch is to block all the hammers against the strings, then use a guage pinched in between the hammer and string while adjusting, I'll have to make a short video to demonstrate that!

I usually measure after touch by feel also, mainly looking for consistency rather than a specific spec to be duplicated from piano to piano. That gives me freedom to respond to that particular piano and adjust things to where they feel right for making music.
