Have you tried cooking pasta and dried beans the dehydrating them to use less water and other resources in emergency situations. Then toy have instant pasta and beans you can make meals in a jar. For less water when water may be scarce and quicker cook times?

Hi quick question for all the people that do this type of prepping has anybody considered what you’re going to do with the empty containers when they are done I’m talking about the situation where there is no garbage pick up you have two problems one is that if you don’t dispose them correctly they could bring by a pests or disease and secondly if people find empty containers near you don’t know there’s a food source nearby what do you do with the empties in the situation where there is no garbage collection?

Great video! Suggestion for the salt.. I pour each container into a ziplock bag, then store in the bucket. That way you don't expose all of it to air and moisture every time you open the bucket. Just take out one at a time as needed. I separate mine into several buckets for iodized, non iodized, kosher, canning etc.

I just started this year stocking up I live in a apartment so no garden. Now I have been putting the best by dates on all of my food do you do that too. I am 70 and retired and it has been difficult but I am pleased. I have 2 kids and my son is stocking up but my daughter thinks I am nuts and that I am over reacting. Take care

I'm stopped Palling for food mainly because I am disabled and I can't drive. I'm in a wheelchand I don't wanna ask neighbors to take me to the store because here lately. If I pick it up, they put it back and then ask me for some later. So I'm stopped Palling food mainly but I do have a year supply of food. I have a 6 month supply of meafter that I don't know what to do. Can you give me some ideas? I have plenty of medication and hadging products but what else can I do❤

What period of time do you estimate your Pantry would last? How many weeks?

It really depends on how the gardens do. Since this is a revolving pantry we add to it as we produce. The pantry is only one layer of preparedness. We have built relationships with people who produce things that we don’t and have already begun bartering.

We also stock both dried corn & popcorn. The dried corn and be ground for cornmeal, feed to animals (if needed) or soaked and cooked. I've ground the popcorn for cornmeal as well, just a slight taste difference, and of course.

This helps a lot! I know you deal with humidity and wet weather. I'm the opposite up here in Midwest, low humidity (unless storms coming), and triple digits most of the year. Great idea putting Knorr and pasta in drawers. My cats love the kinkle sound and tear into them when they sneak into pantry, ugh! Any idea of storage life on white vinegar and bleach? I heard bleach is only 6 months. Final question, can I still plant established veggie plants now for fall harvest? Our frost is late Nov-Dec. I have a greenhouse I can use for predator control and planned to put down a tarp on the ground below containers. Just the basics and heat tolerate veggies. MaBerry Homestead 🙏🕯🕊🇺🇲❤️

We don’t stock bleach. We use vinegar for germ fighting. It should keep for for 2-3 years or more past the best by date. As far as the plants, go for it!
@MaBerryHomestead
@MaBerryHomestead Жыл бұрын
@BroussardHomestead I questioned bleach as I heard 6 months of shelf life. I have been using vinegar for over 10+ years for cleaning, and that's when I finished getting rid of chemical cleaners. For everything else, distilled water and microfiber cloth (dusting) and alcohol and fiber cloth on TVs, devices, etc... In a pinch hand sanitizer, LoL Haven't found anything to break down calcium in pipes, though. Vinegar doesn't work. Water here is too hard.
@BroussardHomestead
@BroussardHomestead Жыл бұрын
Great job finding alternatives to chemical cleaners! Can’t really give an answer about the calcium buildup since we don’t fight that battle. Sorry.
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt Жыл бұрын
@@MaBerryHomestead Sodium citrate is a chelate which dissolves calcium deposits. It’s the main ingredient in dishwashing detergents. Check their labels. Oxalic acid is another chelate which sequesters calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, and other hard water contaminants. Found in automotive radiator cleaners. Also in spinach!

“Here’s some laundry stuff…” referring to a box of borax, which is used in DIY detergent formulations as a water softener. (Not the sharpest tool in the shed. )

We prepare for the Base Line. Then we prepare for local common emergencies, then the less likely. After that we prep for national events and then global events. I have three years' worth for the two of us here in Idaho. We have at the CA house at least two years for four people. If I stick to my diet we can extend another two or three months.

About how long could you eat off your current stock? Do you also stock non food items such as first aid supplies and personal hygiene products?
@BroussardHomestead
@BroussardHomestead Жыл бұрын
I would estimate a year or more. Especially since we garden and forage to constantly add to the stockpile. In this video we didn’t get into all of the other non-food stocks. But yes we have more.
