Sorry you lost your spot. Happened to 2 iterations of our hunting club in the Adirondacks. In about 1950, Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. sold the land we rented from them to NYS. They sent a notice for us to put in a bid for one acre the cabin had been on for over 20 years. The club secretary was an alcoholic and never did send a bid. Got a letter from NYS to move the cabin or they would burn it. The club dismantled and moved it to a rented spot 2 miles downstream. Took all vacations and holidays to accomplish and required fording the river. Twenty years later the cabin caved in from snow in winter. The state closed off the logging road at the river the same year and the owner refused to give us another lease. Several camp owners took the state to court. The club had to disband but some of us continued to tent on the original cabin site on the state land on the river. That continued for another 20 years until the senior member died. Take nothing for granted.
