Hi Anna, I love your ramblings. This afternoon I have been sewing half square triangles from all the bits you cut off when sewing flying geese, you kept me company. I made 74 HST's. Now all I have to do is press the seams open and sew the bits back together. My daughter wants me to make 4 mug rugs so the HST's will come in handy. Weather today cloudy and dreary and not very warm. Hope you enjoy the retreat. Regards Anne

I woke up at 4:10 this morning and really needed to see/hear your utube this morning! My plan was to work on a new table runner for Thanksgiving today, but I’ve been hesitant and apprehensive about starting it because it’s been a while since quilting anything. My comfort has been cross stitching…but you have given me the impetus to just get going and DO IT! We have rain all day here in North Carolina from traveling IDA, so it will be a good day to tackle a project! You are so real and relatable! Needless to say, I’ll be thinking about you as I slowly and carefully do my cutting!

I so agree with you on taking hand work to retreat. You want to socialize more than anything. I would’ve done that at my retreat this year but there is always a class of some kind so I bring my machine. You’ll have no problem with your table runner. Just take away all the pieces for the pot holders and you should be golden. My retreat was canceled this year due to COVID again but hopefully will be rescheduled soon. Hope yours keeps you safe and sound.

Such an appropriate video to watch just after this happened. I saw a quilt that gave me an idea so I was drafting my own pattern. Was going fine until I cut the squares for the half square triangles. Fortunately I decided to piece a bit of it before continuing to cut as I had miscalculated. Sadly I was using scrap and had just enough for one block so that fabric had to be abandoned when I had undercut the squares. The gears in my brain seized so decided to take a break and watch you. LOL. After your video finished realised my 1/2 sq triangles are cut correctly. I was just trying to trim then down to the wrong size!!!! Thanks for your help. Hope you also have success in sorting out your project. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Of course there isn’t any extra for errors. I took the piece to the shop to see if I could buy a fat quarter. I had to tell her my sad tale. Luckily they keep scraps in the back leftover from cutting the kits, so she gave me a replacement piece. I learned ,unless on and now stop all cutting until the coast is clear…lol. I am hoping that you can figure out how to 'make it work', even if it is not exactly as the kit was intended... I also hope that you are able to attend your quilt retreat - I could tell how much you have looked forward to it! Thank you again for praying for Hurricane Ida victims as it will be a long recovery. We are finally seeing hope - after 10 days, we finally have power, phone, internet, most stores open but with limited hours and supplies, very limited postal service and my bank is still not open. But we know how to prepare and we will make it through this just as other communities such as Oregon find ways to recover from the devastating wild fires. Last week we had Mass in a church with no electricity and our priest reminded us to look for the miracles and not focus on the devastation - and there are so many miracle stories! I finally drove into town yesterday on my normal route....so many houses where huge trees fell inches away from a home...Truly have to believe God was protecting that family! Thank you for the visit...truly like a visit with a friend in these troubled times :)

Do as I say and not as I do. Measure twice and cut once is the saying you were searching for. I know you you will figure it out in the end! I hope you can manage to go to the whole retreat minus that first day.

Hi Anna, maybe bring your featherweight. That is what I do. Sometimes on retreat my guild will have small project that need to get done. Senior quilts, breast cancer bags. Chemo caps. Etc. So I would love to help out. And I'll have a machine that is small and lightweight, and doesn't take up so much room.

Well now.........watching this video and you cutting out the table runner was like watching a video that someone took of me doing this!!!!!! OH MY. Yupperoos. Sometimes my brain will go into a high-speed collywobble trying to discern "instructions". I avoid kits like the plague because of that. I'm going to look for popcorn crocheting though. Enjoy prepping for your Retreat. Thanks for taking time out to be with us.

I was cross stitching as I watched & listened to you...It is difficult to pick & choose projects to take on a retreat. I learned early on that taking a bit more is better than completing everything you've brought and have nothing to work on. Kathy Schmitz does sweet designs!

You can do it Anna!!! You are my fav! I too love all things wool and quilting…when I begin to cut and piece an old kit I almost hyperventilate! I’m going to start laughing more! It’s better for me. I wish I really knew you .. we have a lot in common. I believe we are around the same age, retired RN, concerns you voice are mine often. Thanks for being my online “friend”. Can’t wait to see the next video… think of me tomorrow as I begin a fall runner that’s been in a project box. Sending us both good vibes 😵💫🧠🧵🪡👵🏻

You can persevere Anna! Rah rah! Lol I can sure relate to trying to following fussy cutting instructions. I have to take a deep breath and say a prayer before each cut. But as the saying goes it’s only fabric. Yikes 😳

Hi Anna - There is nothing out there that can’t be fixed. It may need a tweak to the original. You can do it. Take the pattern and 2 different color of hiliter pens. Make one color for the table runner and the other color for the pot holder. Read it line per line and determine which it’s for and then use the correct hiliter to color code and when you get it all read you will have the instructions for each pattern separately. Hope this makes sense. You are color coding the instructions to only read what you need. You can make this and it will be beautiful. I’ve got faith in you. Hugs!

You know - I rewrite the instructions when they include more or not enough information that I like - sometimes i do it in the margins- or I cross off their numbers and write mine. And - because I’m a “newbie”, if I have time, I’ll do it in a practice fabric. (Why yes, I do have quite a few orphan blocks/ hahahahaha).

Really enjoyed your musings today. I need to pack for a 3 week road trip in our Motor home that is slightly larger than your van. We are going to see a grandson who is 18 months that we have never met. I plan to bring my machine as well as handwork. I’m not even sure what product I’m bringing. 😳

New stuff all the time. It is so hard not to start new stuff!!! I enjoy sitting with you when I can. Even if it takes me three or four sits to see one in entirety. OMG that haunted camper kit is so cute!!! Sadly we just sold our fifth wheel. Husband mot wanting to take it out any longer. I'm not making too much of a fuss. But I will say our intent in the get go was something smaller and he got hooked on the 37' fifth wheel. It was my shangrila. The new couple who bought it are thrilled so the dream continues

@@quiltroadies1695 I'd love one now but my husband is not keen. Here on the east coast fuel costs are quite high. He is not into travel like I am. A van like Penny would be ideal

I had to laugh because I often start talking my myself and wondering why I can't follow what seems to be clear directions. I think you are right, some directions are harder then others. I want pictures, as a visual learner. YOUR table runner will be GREAT! No friend will pull out the pattern and see how exact it matches. (Oh and the Sew Yeah brothers are so much fun...hard to resist the lovely fabric) So question, I'm lucky to have a new sewing room, with 2 bookcases I have fabric 'wrapped' around comic book backing, but how do you stash your fat quarters? I got clear bins, as I need to see what I have to use it. What do you do? Have a great week!
@quiltroadies16953 жыл бұрын
Thanks🙏 my fat quarters are piled / stacked by theme or color and I wrap them around a 6 inch ruler when I fold so they are about the same width😀
