You can learn to save seeds, compost, learn different ways of growing food. I live in an odd area; it's a suburb that opens into a small national park. So I'm going to go around inoculating dead trees with oyster mushroom plugs. Turning my gross little pond into an aquaponic system using a cheap kiddie pool. It's all about seeing what you already have to its full potential

Another great video again not that I expected less. I really like that "Buy Seeds and grow now!" advice. This is definitely a skill and not something likely to give you a bumper crop on your first go. And rest assured there will be failures along the way! I would suggest using Heirloom Seeds and saving some every season for next year or if you have crop failure and need to plant again!

You are not lying about your 6 month rule. I do have to add that just this past Saturday I was cleaning the gutters for this old lady I normally shovel snow for here in Wisconsin and turned around and purchase the little bit of silver and a little tiny bit of gold I've been wanting to buy lately and had a couple hundred left over that helped pay bills during these trying times. Get out there and get to know your community. It could just save you and your family in time if need. True words of wisdom thank you bear...

In many cases knowledge is free. Google the ingredients to make lye, black powder, gasoline from plastic (it's a thing), and whatever else you can come up with. Write it all down in a notebook, and keep that in your bag. Having that might make all the difference in the world.
@VictorGarciaR3 жыл бұрын
It is possible in theory to make gasoline from plastic, key words "in theory". It is a very energy intensive process, with low eficiency and nasty byproducts. You are better served with a wood gasifier

Hit your local food pantries/churches. Most of what's provided is shelf stable goods, and produce can be canned. Also, learn some old world food preservation techniques. You don't need electricity (they didn't have it) and much is still relevant. Such as, salted meat, portable soup, ship biscuit, etc. A little bit of forethought can go a long way without a lot of money.

Tip for people on medications which are controlled substances: If you can, request tablet form rather than capsule so that it can be broken down appropriately and then convince your doctor to up your dosage. Tell them current dose is not working anymore. Then stay at the same, already effective, lower dosage by breaking down tablets. There you have extra rations to guard for SHTF.

Hi Just odd comment. I grew up in a poor family , never any money. Mom always was able to get the extra can or peace of this or that. We did not eat this we always put it aside for when we had no money for food at all. This would happen often enough. I know times have changed a little, but being poor is not being able to prep . Any knife steel will strike a ferro rod as long as it has a sharp 90 degree spine (so you don't use your edge, but use it if you must). Carbon steel will allow you to strke sparks off the blade with flint or chert like the historic flint and steel sets. Usually throwing a spark into char cloth or natural char. You can use an old file to make a flint striker. Ferro rods are soft. You can strike them with flint or other rocks, stainless, broken glass or ceramics etc. Just has to have a sharp 90 degree angle to scrape it with..

A great cheap prep is get old car batteries that don't work anymore.Dump them out spray them out with a water hose then make a Epsom salt (One Quart) and 4 Quarts of Distilled water mix it in a large pot on your stove on low heat and mix until salt is dissolved.Dump Solution Into cleaned out battery put on battery charger.Trickle charge is best for deep charging.Charge outside with the battery caps still out of the battery.You Might have to jump the battery to start charging cause some newer chargers don't charge completely dead batteries but once there is a little charge in battery it should charge normally.Regular car battery Lead Acid.Epsom salt $5 and Distilled Water $2 = new battery....Can be done 4 to 6 times per battery if your using in a budget solar system.

bought $45 dollars worth of assorted seeds today from my area seed company of all types of veggies :) later tonight I bought like $26 dollars worth of Winter Red Wheat Berries and White Wheat Berries ( each 3 LBs. ) so I shall start my Cancer survivor [ currently in Remission here ] Victory garden this year :) it is a start and added to my dry beans stored already and my rice strores. looking to find an IBC 200 + Gallon tote eventually here to store outdoor water as well. I feel grabbing a 40 Round Drum Mag for my High Point .45 carbine should be an investment here to have some sort of higher capacity type protection [ I know... how many may have just thrown up a lil bit hearing High Point but, hey it is what I have so far and a matching .45 acp High Point pistol too so the ammo is a universal buy for me here and they are inexpensive but, very durable weapons.
