For anyone who is actually planning on making this cake: I tried it and it came out stunning! I’m a complete beginner in cake baking and the result impressed my friends and family! Few things to note: - The recipe calls for wayyyyyyy too much sugar. I ended up using only 2 cups for the layers and 3 cups for the cream (instead of the suggested 6-8 cups!) I can’t even imagine how sweet it would be, what I did was more than enough and it was still very sweet. - I found there wasn’t enough buttercream to ice the cake and cover it fully unless maybe you’re a pro. I ended up needing more buttercream. Next time I’ll just use a full pack of butter and add strawberries and sugar proportionally.

I made this today for my boyfriend's 28th birthday, his favorite cake flavors are chocolate and strawberry and it was PERFECT. He absolutely fell in love with this cake and so did I, even though I'm not super big on chocolate but omg this cake is to die for! Recipe is well explained, easy to follow and to make as well. It's a messy process hehe but so much fun!! 10/10 thank you for this recipe!! To anyone who reads, it's worth it, make it! It'll be the star of the day.

ok, i made this yesterday as my birthday cake (don't ask why i made my own birthday cake, but the reasons are not bad) - cut the recipe into 1/3 to fit 2 6" cake pans and forgot to get cream, so no ganache - decorated the top with strawberries and milk chocolate mini-chips - it was delectable. the oil-based cake is so moist and flavorful and the frosting was wonderful - all around thumbs up. thanks, john!

I actually made this cake recently and it tastes just like a chocolate covered strawberry 🍫🍓🧁😋. Delicious!! I used milk chocolate chips for the ganache instead of semi chocolate. Excellent recipe to try.

THANK YOU for mentioning whether the bowl should NOT touch the water. In my experience, you're the first one I heard mention how to do that properly. No more losing sleep on whether the bowl should or shouldn't touch the boiling water! ;) Can't wait to try this one!!

I made this cake last night and put it together today. It it was so good. I subbed coconut oil, and used less sugar, probably half. I also used cream cheese In the frosting and used much less sugar, it didn't set like frosting would but I'm leaving it in the fridge anyways. I totally forgot about the genache, and topping the cake with strawberries. Thank you for the video, it was a pretty easy cake!

I made a 6in and 9in 2 tier version of this last week for my daughter's birthday and it came out great (although I had a bunch of frosting left over). I actually added in some cream cheese because the sweetness was a bit much and it balanced it out for me. Tomorrow I am attempting a 6-9-12 3-tier version for her party. Wish me luck!

What did you change to make it dairy free? I have a milk allergy, and my family is lactose intolerant, but I would love to make it. I do use plant butter to make my frosting instead of real butter.

@@novelist99 yes so I did use plant butter for the frosting. I omitted the chocolate ganache because I couldn’t wait to eat it… but in place of the buttermilk I used 1cup almond milk (or any non dairy milk sub) with 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar. You will add the cream of tartar to the dry ingredients though to avoid clumping.

I found my daughter's next birthday cake! She will be 19 on June 19th. I wanted something spectacular for her golden birthday. I always bake fancy cakes from scratch for family birthdays. I was thinking about a chocolate layer cake with strawberry frosting and then I saw this video. Normally I will have an idea for a cake and I will end up combining ideas from 2 or 3 youtubers to make my vision come to life. When I saw this video I was soooo excited!!! It's absolutely amazingly perfect! I'm so excited for your book to come out. My husband already pre ordered it for me. My daughter and I are big fans. We always watch your videos together. I'm also a grocery store cake decorator so I get to practice at work. It just looks a little different at work because nothing is made there. The cakes are baked at another facility and brought in fresh. We keep them frozen until we are ready to use them. Our buttercream frosting comes in giant 5 gallon buckets and there is no butter or cream in the ingredients. Our whipped frosting also comes in a slightly smaller bucket and kept frozen until we open them. We also have time limits for getting stuff done and certain grocery store guidelines for how to do things. The only time I have artistic license is with the special cake orders. When I do the cake orders I love to go above and beyond and exceed their expectations. I love making people happy! I mostly love to bake cakes for family at home so I can make everything from scratch and take my time on it to make sure it's perfect. I usually bake the cake the day before the party so I have all day to work on it.
