My grandpa used to make a bunch of these for Thanksgiving and always hid one for me to have by myself. He passed away unexpectedly last year, before he ever wrote down the recipe. This year, I plan to start creating my own recipe in his beloved memory. I think this will be excellent recipe to start a new family tradition 😊

I use a hand emulsion blender to cream my sweet potatoes, add butter, 1 can sweeten condensed milk, as less extra sugar as possible, lemon zest, pumpkin pie spice, and those spices. Dark brown sugar instead of granulated. Then eat it breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
@Craxin01 Жыл бұрын
If you want to avoid overmixing the custard at the end, I'd mix the sugar and spices together before adding to the sweet potato. You won't have to work out clumps of spices, so less mixing.

Chef's kiss to the chef! Honestly, I've made Sweet Potato Pie for many years -- patiently removing the strings. Whether using a hand mixer or stand mixer...and rinsing the beaters several times to remove the strings. But using the food processor is genius, a thousand thanks for the tip. And yes, my pies turned out light and fluffy and of course, delicious! Thanks sharing. Love the channel.

I grew up With my grandmother and my mom’s sweet potato’s pie . You can boil the potato, does not change the how the pie is made. It’s what you put into the potatoes to make it a great tasting pie
@aviviapatrick707 Жыл бұрын
I think boiling does taste different from roasting- check out the water from boiling- it’s usually slightly orange; that’s some flavor you’re pouring out. To me, the roasted potato has a deeper flavor, it gets a little carmelized. An older lady taught me to roast the sweet potatoes and I haven’t boiled them since.
@avalon73676 ай бұрын
@@andrejohnson121 That's Not Accurate about Boiling the Potatoes. Yes, the Other Ingredients DO Add to the Final Flavor, BUT Boiling ANYTHING Changes the Flavor Significantly. Wen U Boil Any Vegetable, Or Potato - U Boil Out a Ton of Flavor & Especially Sweet Potatoes, Bcuz the Natural Sweetness (sugar) is Largely Boiled Out as Well. Mor Sugar is Ultimately Needed to Replace the Natural Sugar U Boiled Out.

What a beautiful pie! 😍 I love to add brown butter, a lil' fresh lemon juice, light Muscovado brown sugar, fresh nutmeg, Ceylon cinnamon, sometimes a lil' fresh orange juice, and condensed milk for contrasting flavors. I am not a fan of blind baking or at least for too long. I would half the time or at least a 1/4 of a time with aluminum around the edges of the crust. Sweet potato pie reminds me of my grandmom. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas we could count on her making her sweet potato pie! Wonderfully delicious memories! 💗🥰💗 I have to say, in your fabulous kitchen you have wonderful storage for your spices but I’m itching to alphabetize your spices for you! Anyone and everyone who knows the alphabet will quickly and easily be able to find any spice when assisting you in the kitchen! Having helped numerous friends and family move house over the years, that is the one organizational tip I did for them and still continue to get thanks years later for making their cooking time easier and more efficient! Also it’s good reinforcement for little helpers in the kitchen just learning their alphabet. Plus, you’ll help out any of your more fastidious viewers who appreciate the neat and orderly! 😉😊🥰

I find that Marie Callender's frozen pie shells are the best and they work just fine if you thaw them and prick the bottom and sides with a fork prior to par baking until they turn slightly brown (15 -20 minutes). I always par bake my pie shell. No one wants to eat raw dough. You did not add any vanilla or cloves or a tablespoon of flour to help set the filling. I liked that you used evaporated milk and that you baked the sweet potatoes removed the skin and the outer flesh of the potato using only the deep colored flesh of the potato. There are so many variations to this recipe but the one ingredient to add is love which makes it the best pie ever.

So now that I'm on my own, I've decided I will make my sweet potato/ pumpkin pies with a Cracker crust like cheesecake. Here in Germany they don't have Graham cracker, so I just use Leibniz cookies and add some spices to it. I also find the cracker crusts to be significantly easier to make
