Hi , I was wondering what is your opinion on the fact that all wildlife and the people who refused to leave , have been thriving in chernobyl and fukushima in the alleged " death zones " Since these disasters occurred ? Wild hogs for example have been breeding to such an extent in fukushima that it has become a pig hunting mecca . ? Pigs are physiologically very similar to humans. ???

All I know is that they don't make furniture the way they used to. I started school in 1960 and the small desks that we had were evidently a match for anything the Soviets could throw at us. All we had to do was duck under it and cover our heads. All kidding aside, I do remember regularly having air raid drills and we thought the chances of such an attack were very real. I think we are much closer to midnight now than we've ever been.

So will you be using that time to cover your cattle panel greenhouses with Heavy plastic so the radiation particles won't poison your food growing soil ? I spent the last week double walling my cattle panels (cattle panel +plastic then another panel and plastic cover) and building a rude rocket mass heater to grow raised bed crops in winter. I live close to a target zone so must do things in advance and as secretly as I can. I also have used the clear, winter, window insulation inside to help seal against tiny radioactive dust . Keep up the good work !!

Hi JR. I was born in 1953. In Montreal, Quebec. I was aware of horns blaring on Fridays, and that was our weekly exercise. It all ended towards the second half of the 60's. Getting prepared for some kind of storm......, I just bought a battery bank of some magnitude and enough panels to keep them up. The bank exceeds usage for about 4 to 5 days. Got just about everything you are mentioning today. I've got a Harvest Right. 4 yrs running. 2 wells and my wife today just brought home tampons and pads, lol.but for other than some may think. Potassium Iodide and apple pectin. One can never be 100% but will make make life bearable in some adverse situations. Thank you, JR.

Im a cbrn specialists and radiation safety officer and in emergency management with the 3 letter agencies. Im retired military and my husband also and 3 of my 5 sons serving overseas. This was good information especially basics I tell most people. Time and distance is important but also if have concrete and several feet of earth between you and outside. Some people are fortunate to have basements that can be used or bunkers but in southeast not many have basements here or storm shelters. I have a farm and honestly nothing much can do for your animals and gardens . Though have thought of barring a container to be able to put animals in if need be but wouldn't work well for long term for food and water without exposure. I was in a combat hospital unit and commissioned as PA while in and was pandemic specialist before cvid. You would use same items and do same if a biological agent was spread. Cut off air form outside sources like ac units and fireplaces and doors and windows. You would wear protective clothing if had to go out and decontamination when coming in by taking everything off before entering and washing head to toe. Radiation sickness would be hard to tell right away and in a population may look like seasonal illnesses till specifically looked for.

Glad you did this. An important aspect of fallout is that it depends if one is downwind from a ground burst. Most nuclear attacks will be air bursts, which jacks up the damage radius a lot. Ground bursts would be used against targets like missile silos. Thus, most won’t have the terrible issues of fallout-except those downwind from places like Minot ND, or other sites.

Thanks JR. This is something I think most preppers will be looking at closely given our current situation. I've looked at all of the likely targets near me and the usual wind patterns. I used Nuclear War Map simulator and I should be good, but who knows. I don't have a basement or a fallout shelter anywhere near me so I'll just have to make the best of what I have. My best bet is staying in the center of my home and maintain the maximum amount of distance from any fallout. I have a Geiger counter to monitor any danger and potassium iodide pills to flood my thyroid with iodine along with apple pectin pills which I've heard could help. I also have gas masks, nitrile gloves, duct tape and Tyvek suits if I absolutely needed to flee my home.

I dug out a very basic foxhole in my backyard in 2022. It can provide at least a bit of blast protection depending upon the distance from the epicenter. I figured that being in there would be better than being in the house when it happens. If we survive that, then we will try to make it to a relatives house with a basement.
