I slice them with a sharp knife in slices, put a cotton rope tied through a seed hole, pour melted soap with essential oil into a round mold and make Luca scrubbing soaps on a rope for Christmas gifts. You are truly the best teacher. God Bless you and your family.

I was once gifted a slice of luffa with a dishcloth crocheted around it. It was quite handy, my dishcloth with a scrubber in the middle!

Until last year I thought these came from the sea. I knew it was a natural sponge but had no idea it was a gourd. I think these are the best things! Wish I had the room to grow a bumper crop to take to the farmers market! You could use these long ones to put in your boots to keep them upright and even put baking soda in them to keep them fresh!

Wow I never thought I would see that again since I leave my country in the Caribbean I remember we use that instead of scrub brushes and sponges it's excellent for scrubbing Everything that had seeds that we can make a bean bag so we can play catch with that's what we did with them with the seeds , we also shake them as a music instrument lol, what a wonderful childhood we had even though out toys was from the backyard or an old cardboard box lol But thank you so much for bringing this video to us it brings back so much memories and it sure is very useful tips,( I'd be looking into getting some of those seeds pretty soon, if someone has some extra seeds and would like to share them I will sure be so happy to receive them 🤗) God bless everyone

I just love loofah sponges. Years ago when my daughter was little we painted her bedroom walls And then use a loofah sponge to sponge paint over it. She had the absolute coolest walls of all her classmates. Thanks for the video

I use mine for bathing and dishes. I actually planted 9 at the end of June and they are still going strong but they got worms eating them and not sure what can I spray them with to kill them. They have climbed up the pergola,over the trees and over the neighbors yard. There are a few gourds I will pick hopefully soon but definitely I’ll plant again next year. What I love the most is that they are a great source of food for the bees. And for that reason alone it’s worth growing them.

I love a loofah sponge. When I was younger I thought they came from the Sea. It was only last year that I found out they are a gourd. So I bought some Seeds. I planted a view as an experiment. I have about 8 loofah gourds on the vine and I'm waiting for them to start drying out before I harvest them. I plan to use them in my homemade soaps and as bath sponges.

Maybe they could be used as a first stage filter? Especially if you flatten them out. Not just water either. Oil, juices (like when making jelly) or something? Sure, there are easier ways but in a pinch! So, filter (first stage only) or strainer. Hmm.. Fish traps when sewn together. I know they'd do a good job cleaning out my stock tank! Speaking of stock... They'd be a great thing to help rid horses of dirt and shedding hair! (or cows ) And as you said, using them to scrub your clothes on a washboard too. LOTS of things. You are only limited to your imagination.

@@PREPSTEADERS Thanks. I have the seeds but never have planted them. I'm going to for SURE now! OH and I've decided to try and sew them together (after maybe cutting them down the center, opening and flattening) to form a liner for my 55 gallon water barrels. They are placed under trees to help keep the water cooler. That means leaves and stuff in the barrels. Then every so often as needed, I can pull it out and dump. That saves the water but cleans the crud out. Hmm. Got my hamster busy spinning that wheel now! LOL OH! and the young leaves can be cooked and eaten and also as feed for goats, sheep, cattle and even horses! (yes, I looked that last part up.) God bless you and yours! I will plant some Luffa in my garden. They look beautiful, are bee friendly and the plant gives food and sponges! How great is that! All what we need for cleaning, for food, for our health grows in a garden. It's so incredible wonderful! I love how nature works and what God prepared for us! 💝

I love your channel and your inspirational and uplifting messages. I was not aware of how a loofah grows. Thank you for sharing this. My idea is to fill or dip the loofah in wax and use as an emergency candle. It might make a comfortable house for a hummingbird in Spring after it hardens or fill with seed for a unique bird feeder. It reminds me a bit of how corn husks were used although loofah has those unique airy caverns.

I love loofahs. I remember my grandfather getting them from a tree when I lived in the Dominican republic. And they last long too. Saintly days of yore. The synthetic yellow one, I thought it was a sea sponge

You can cut them in inch wide pieces and fill with homemade natural soaps. Not sure how but you can soak them in vinegar to cure them. The ones on the sticks are the best thing ever for dry brushing yours or others skin. "Dry brushing" the skin's surface can be used to help stroke patients.

Loofas are grt nd wonderful on the face nd body! I’ve seen my mom many of my relatives use it am using it since my childhood we get fr damn cheap here in India nd yes we do eat the gourds too in different ways incorporating it in chutneys nd curries. I did also try those synthetic ones that u showed the blue one types those r booming here in business but fr me personally it’s abrasive on the skin nd doesnt (edit) hav a grip. Had no idea you could eat these, when they young. have you ever thought of doing a video on Jerusalem artichoke. they take care of themselves they double themselves every year, beautiful yellow flowers and a great food source in winter when nothing else is around they're similar to a very ugly potato. They are also low glycemic.

I tried them for the first time this year also. From Baker Creek as well. Our driest year since 1890 something. Mine haven't turned yellow yet so I don't know what I'll get but it climbed my cherry tree and is dangling from there. I had given up on any growing and then bam it was like 4 months before they produced. . Also add prayers for breast cancer I contracted thank you -sandy

Loofah is grown in Barbados and we cook them when they are young when they are dry we use it for dish washing They are delicious

I refuse to use those from supermarkets that are basically poison. I do have one which consists of coconut oil+salt+bicarb. The oil seems to be glugging up my drain.

Yep. The oil will solidify when it hits cooler pipes. If it’s directly under the sink in the trap it’s not so hard to deal with. If it’s further down the line, big mess or money snaking the drain. I’ve heard people using peroxide and natural charcoal. I’d swap the oil for any water like liquid. Peroxide, alcohol or even plain water to make the paste.

You can put it on a pvc tube with one end sealed and pour homemade soap into the tube. When it hardens you use an air compresser with a valve to push the soap out of the PVC pipe and cut it up into exfoliating bars of soap.

I think the shoe sole idea is great. I almost always wear extra insoles in my steel toe work shoes or my everyday shoes. If I ever grow and harvest these successfully, I'd love to try them as insole support. Sometimes I _really_ need new insoles and/or new shoes and my finances are too tight to spend $6 to $15 bucks on them. If these work as an insole supplement, that could get me by in a pinch or potentially save me $50 bucks a year on insoles.
