... and then rejecting... Unfortunately it leaves no room for my gay children or siblings to be respected. The Mormons presume to over-throw this hard-won civil right and then call it "good." The amazing thing is that the Mormon Church - of all anybody - presumes to be an authority on righteous marriage when only a hundred years ago they practiced polygamy in violation of the law, and their founder married between what was it... 30 or 40 women? Two age fourteen? It's too precious.

***** Dave, I think many here might find your comments presumptuous if you think that believing gay sex is morally wrong precludes respect. Mormons believe that everyone's a sinner and should all help each other, and most members I know practice that with gay family, friends, and colleagues. We can agree to disagree about our perception of God's feelings on the issue. I personally believe that God is not opposed to his children legally discouraging any given sin, but is equally disappointed when they do something wrong, legal or otherwise. The challenge for each person is to discern when they are offended because something is incorrect and when they are offended because they need to repent. Surely, an abundance of mercy will be meted out to all of us over such challenging issues.

Cameron Nielsen : You said "I think many here might find your comments presumptuous if you think that believing gay sex is morally wrong precludes respect." I reply: No presumption required. It is proven that this attitude creates stigma. It is known this stigma has negative outcomes for LGBTQAI persons. Here is the science: www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/Documents/LGBTQ_Population_Report.pdf Are you offended because I told you something true? How will you now repent?

***** And your laws were ment to change God's mind then. It is not like you believe families even stay together after death so what do you care? And in the Eighteen hundreds you it was normal to marry your first cousin. It you look at history and compare it to our context that makes you an imbecile. What did they even teach you in college?
@JacobthePoshPotato

***** Believing homosexuality is morally wrong shouldn't harm gays yet you are so riled up about it. Plus Mormons think coffee, sex outside of marriage, smoking, drugs, drinking, and porn are morally wrong yet you don't see smokers, drinkers, college students, addicts, and porn-stars getting angry about them protecting their children from their behavior. And TL;DR.

"The feeling came over me that she was the best person that I had ever seen... If I could only be with her, I could become every good thing I ever wanted to be." Wow... So powerful. He speaks of his spouse so lovingly and tenderly. This inspires me to seek after a companion who has this same effect on me, and ultimately to become (with God's help) the type of person who has this effect on my companion. I recognize that I've been quick to settle... God has greatness in store for those who desire his most virtuous gifts, including a wholesome and uplifting marriage.

I can witness to those same truths. My relationship with my husband means so much to me. As we've followed these principles in building our family up with faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreation, we have been able to overcome many trials as a family and grow close and strong.

"We must find ways to lead people to a faith that they can replace their natural self-interest with deep and lasting feelings of charity and benevolence. With that change, and only then, will people be able to make the hourly unselfish sacrifices necessary for a happy marriage and family life-and to do it with a smile." Great words from #LDS leader at #Vatican #Humanum conference on the #Family.

SO AMAZING! Is the Godly doctrine of the family not clear? I can't even begin to tell you the blessings I've received and seen others receive by adherence to the familial principles as explained by President Henry B. Eyring in this address. I know that EVERY family can experience the same blessings that I have if they, too, will adhere to these principles. Society as a whole will experience peace, individuals will be prosperous and happy, and one day, we will all live together as a human family with our Father.

Benjamin Sisk problem is, Samuel and Lehi are fictional characters so of course they didn't join forces with anyone. I will speak evil of what you call the Lords anointed when they are due for it. They're about as anointed as anyone else is, so they aren't exempt from criticism or fault and in a position of leadership they are even more subject to it. If you want to know who rules over you, just ask yourself who you're not allowed to criticize.

Eric Waldron Yes, I'm sure you believe that, but you can't know it. If I told you I know that Santa Claus lives and I know that he will visit me this year, you would think "oh, you poor delusional person. An adult that believes in Santa. How cute. But what a whacko." I feel the same way about your unfounded beliefs. Nearly everyone outside the .05% of the world who are fully active mormons know this as well. Only those who are gullible and malleable enough to your marketing materials will ever see otherwise.

Into how many eye sockets did "Apostle" Henry B. Eyring jam his thumb? He presents himself as one of the Twelve Apostles - yet he is also married with children. Catholics are amused? He presents the Mormon "A Proclamation on the Family" and yet pretends gay people have no rights to their own children or marriages? I'd like to see the Mormon Church actually stand for humanity - instead of tearing down the modicum of happiness gained recently for LGBT persons. Their behavior in this regard seems so unchristlike. Because Jesus had this to say about homosexuality: " [this page left intentionally blank] ".

Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26-27. And where in the bible does it say the Apostles were never married? Or when they got a divorce? And last I checked, there are married Priests in the catholic church being very vocal about that particular practice of not marrying. And by the way, I thought we called them gay? They changed the name again? Can't we just stick with one name?

Miss DJ7223: It is "Miss", right? I'm referring to the hubris of the itsy bitsy Utah Mormon sect with their outrageous history of sexual infidelity presuming present an "Apostle" to lecture the Catholic Pope and his Cardinals about said "Apostle's" marriage. It cuts a lovely picture.

***** You never answered my questions. And yes, we had polygamy. We stopped that. I don't see how that has to do with anything. And all he did was talk about the blessing of his marriage, and how he believes marriage is a great blessing. And I'll give you my solemn testimony that I know he is an Apostle of God. I have read through the history, anti-mormon stuff included, and I still won't be swayed. Be it what it may. And fyi: It's Mister! Well, God bless. I'm done.

DJ7223 Mr. DJ7223 or whatever-your-name-is. I apologize - I'm not intending to dodge any questions. Let's take them one at a time: You said: "Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26-27. And where in the bible does it say the Apostles were never married?" I reply: " I don't know nor care. That was oh-so-two-thousand-years ago and yet has nothing to do with the idea that these modern self-proclaimed Mormon "Apostles" from an upstart American non-Trinitarian religion presume to lecture Popes and Cardinals of a church the Mormons themselves called "Great and Abominable" in my lifetime (See "Mormon Doctrine - Great and Abominable Church" and still in the modern Mormon scripture say "all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.” When Henry B. Eyring starts to lecture the Catholic Church about anything its ... specious. www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1.19d?lang=eng You said: "Or when they got a divorce? And last I checked, there are married Priests in the catholic church being very vocal about that particular practice of not marrying." I reply: "Oh? So why did they need an LDS "Apostle" to come? It's very sweet of the Catholic Church, but seriously? Henry B. Eyring brought nothing to the table except some preening and a sweet anecdote about his lovely wife. In short, he brought no data, no revelation and brought back no result. You said: "And by the way, I thought we called them gay? They changed the name again? Can't we just stick with one name?" I say: What do these persons call themselves? In the effort to be inclusive it's best to use terms these people also use to call themselves. It is interesting that you'd heap in a whole lot of additional things... And naturally these things can be discussed.
@DJ7223

***** The point of this summit I believe was to show the wonderful blessings of marriage. And I think he did that. And American upstarts, huh? We believe God needed to restore his Church, and so what better place than America, where it is totally legal to believe whatever you want. And America was built upon the standards of God in the Bible, which we believe is God's word. Also, I've heard gays refer to themselves in so many different forms, that it leaves me unsure which is right. And when did I ever indicate my gender? You saw my pic, and I'm pretty sure it's clear I'm a dude. You are just a rude, self righteous, "sad, strange little man, and you have my pity. Farewell" (Toy Story).
