Not only I am fascinated by how much you know about electronics and you give me courage to open up my own pedals haha, but you also help a lot of us understand what we are buying - some pedals I find to be overpriced, so seeing what components are inside of them shows me if they are worth it or not 🤘

Major props on normalizing those mistakes. Anyone who's built a pedal knows the frustration from doing something dumb and irreversible. You feel like the only person who would have done that, but in reality it happens to everyone. It's good that people know this. Great build by the way!

Thanks for doing this build! I got this pcb a while back and it had a weird bug where it would only stay powered if it was the only user of a high current 9v dc adapter and a vintage style fuzz should never be that power hungry. Seeing this video inspired me to figure out the issue in my build and it was simply a bad solder joint on the dc jack 😅. Each mistake is an opportunity to learn something new!

Thanks for the video. I am still learning to build and your videos are always informative. Your work always looks so clean. A couple of questions. 1. What is the putty you used called? 2. Why do you solder the components on both sides of the PCB? Thanks!

1. It's called poster tack. 2. Mostly aesthetics. Ideally yes the solder flows to both sides for best connection, but in guitar pedals it's pretty low consequence to not have that. The lead size of my resistors vs. the hole size for Aionfx boards is just close enough to prevent good flow through both sides of the board.

1. Blu Tack 2. Aesthetics - there is no engineering reason to solder the component side at all. The thru-hole plating will connect both sides of the board without any problem. Vias, for instance, do so with much smaller holes and no solder flowing through them (just the plating). It is always reassuring to see the hole fill up to the surface of the component side. Solder touching a component body is an IPC standards fail - so why would anyone tempt fate?
