Ma'am, yes, you are correct. I have this doubt from my school days. Why should we not use present continuous tense instead of using present perfect continuous tense. Both are giving same meaning. Why not adding time duration in present continuous tense.

@@arumugamjaikumar1027 Thanks for your response, friend. but, present continuous also must have been started at past, isn't it? eg, you say that he is writing - this means the writing work is going on present. so, writing work must have been started at past. so, both present continuous and present perfect continuous are started at past and continuing at present. so, why should we not use present continuous tense instead of present perfect continuos tense.

He is writing - Present continuous tense He has been writing since 7 ' o clock in the morning - Present perfect continuous tense . 1. When you mention time, you have to use present perfect continuous tense, it is a rule. 2. He is writing since 7 'o cock in the morning is grammatically wrong.
