Hey! This is a great way to learn the Present Perfect! One thing for students to remember is this; We use the PRESENT PERFECT when we want to talk about an action that has happened ANYTIME before the present. For the SIMPLE PAST we talk about an action that happened at a SPECIFIC point in time (NOT ANYTIME). E.g PRESENT PERFECT - I have never been to England (ANYTIME in my life) vs PAST SIMPLE - I went to England last year (Last year = specific time). We can also use the present perfect to talk about actions that have happened many times in the past. E.g I have been to England 3 times. (In my life).

Thank you for this. I am an English speaker but have never looked closely at grammar. I am taking a grammar module in my degree this year. I think it would be great if a brief explanation could be given at the beginning of these videos, to explain why these tenses are called what they are. Why is it present perfect when describing a past action? Things like that. Thank you for your time in making these. I will endeavour to watch one every day. You have a charming teaching style.

Having taught English-as-a-foreign-language for more than thirty years in five countries in South America, I wish I'd had you and your videos as a fall-back tool for my students (and me!). Where were you when we needed you? :) . . . . Keep up the good work. Thank you . . . Better late than never: mejor tarde que nunca; I'll send your links to former students.

Thank you very much for this lesson. I have a question. What's the difference between these 2 sentences: "I've been living in Paris since 2015" and "I've lived in Paris since 2015"?
@love4dog6 жыл бұрын
Inna Alekseyeva I’m American and speak English, but to answer your question in my opinion, most people would say “I’ve lived in Paris since 2015”. When we speak, we usually try to make sentences short. When we use phrases such as “I have been living in Paris since 2015”, it sounds extremely proper. Contractions are much more common in English (isn’t, haven’t, you’ve) etc

17:28 This construction is used to confirm information that the questioner has already received. It's used to verify that the information was understood correctly. It denotes disbelief or surprise. Person 1: "Michael Jackson is my favorite singer." Person 2: "Who is Michael Jackson?" Person 1: "You've never heard of Michael Jackson?!"

Talking about examples by using given grammar point 2, which's the difference between "They have lived in Paris since 2014" and "They have been living in Paris since 2014"? Both of these examples show an idea of continuity. Is there some semantic difference about them? Tks in advance!
