I present all models produced by Matchbox in the years 1979 1980. The company presented a very wide range of toys in various variants.

Sad is correct.😥 By trying to compete with HotWheels, they sold out their loyal customers, most of whom never bought another MB after Superfast were introduced - I certainly didn't. Even most of the King Size were embarrassing junk. Trains, planes, boats - none of them *proper* Matchboxes. If you're going to broaden the range - do it with quality products, not rubbish.👎 Having said all that, there were a very small number of good models in the new range; I seem to remember the Concorde was rather nice. Sorry for the rant but I've never forgiven MB for that sell-out.😁

of course that's all right. You just have to take into account that the first years of Superfast were high-quality production. Later, when all futuristic models started, matchbox clearly lost its popularity. But there are also enthusiasts who had their childhood in the 90s and for them these models are very cool. @@PaulRestorer Yes. There is definitely a personal childhood factor here. Yes, too, the early superfasts were good models and I did find them fun on the matchbox track sets. The later matchbox were to me almost indistinguishable from modern far eastern, characterless tat. Cheers, and keep it up !

Way back in 1979, we bought, with our own allowance money, a Matchbox Harbor playset. Included was a 1979 US catalog. Interesting to see the difference between it and the UK version. Ours had a listing of Matchbox 75 releases through the years but omitted the Motorway, Playmats, Playsets, Steer 'n Go, Streaksets, Chumblies, non-Shufflies Live n' Learn and Mobile Action Command sets. Along with the shown Garage and Service Station set, (which were noted as not available in the US) our catalog had a multi-level Parking Garage set that's not shown in the UK catalog.

Sorry to say I only managed to sit through one catalogue Paul. Camera work was as good as ever but, by this period, Matchbox were selling embarrassing rubbish, not the fine models of the 60s and late 50s. After the first catalogue, I left the video playing and went and made tea - a trick I usually reserve for the ads.😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.

@@PaulRestorer I quite agree Paul. It depends on what was "normal" at the time. The kids who grew up with Superfast probably saw the original series as old-fashioned and slow, compared to their modern, free-running cars. It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same stuff and each new generation always likes the contemporary stuff, rather than what they see as out-dated - same with music. I'm quite happy to watch *some* of the more modern stuff and it would be interesting to hear from some of the guys who grew up with the newer cars. Cheers for now, Dougie.
