What to say in a few words, I thank God for leading me to Tipper and her beautiful words of kindness and always always thinking of her viewers. She can make my day bright like someone walking into a dark room pulling that string as the light bulb clicks on to full glory. I have a copy of the book and want to thank Tipper and Jim for all the hard dedicated worked they together have blended into something that will last for years and years to come. To the Swain Co. Genealogical and Historical Society, thank you for asking Tipper and Jim to speak during your meeting. I enjoyed the kind words and making the other higher themselves. God blessings upon all.

I love your channel! After my mom passed away in 2015, I realized that there were so many things that I didn't get a chance to ask her. When I was growing up, she would always can or pickle vegetables. Some things I knew how to do, but others I didn't. You've shown me how to do those things and it's kind of like having a piece of her back. Thank you for that and for sharing with the rest of us so that we can pass it down to our children! Love the cookbook! God bless!

Tipper , l have loved listing to you and learning about my roots . I finally got to stay in the NC mountains in Sapphire, NC and the Highlands area. I went to a White Squirrel festival and just fell in love with the mountains. I realize that that is a far cry from my roots in Spruce Pine ( my bio father was a moonshiner who was kicked out of his family ) , but still it’s beautiful country. If it wasn’t for my allergies and asthma, my husband ( who would love to move there ) and l would move in a second.

I really enjoyed this! I love that Jim spoke about the stack cake recipe - that is the recipe that brought me to Celebrating Appalachia!! My mother-in-law made a stack cake that was so good and I really liked it. Unfortunately, I was a young woman, new wife, new mom and not understanding the importance of family recipes. By the time I realized that the recipes were important, she was gone. I looked for YEARS to find a recipe that was close to hers and that search brought me to you. I'm so glad that the search for that Stack Cake recipe brought me to Celebrating Appalachia. I've learned so much and definitely spend quite a bit of time reliving happy memories of family that have long since passed through your (and now Jim's) food and information! Thank you.

Years ago, decades ago, I saw an article in a magazine about the Smoky Mountains, it could have been Southern Living or Good Housekeeping, I don't remember but it got my attention. The pictures were so beautiful and instantly my mind went on a vacation right then. My husbands ancesters and family are from Holly Springs, Mississippi and they have a family reunion every couple years and there was gonna be one that year. My husband and I talked it over and decided we were going to the Smoky Mountains after the reunion. Our caravan from Texas included us, 2 kiddos, husbands 2 brothers, 1 sister and their families, Mom and Dad. We couldn't wait to begin our adventure to Tennesee and we weren't disappointed. We've since been back 3 or 4 times, once we drove through a blizzard, I think from Gatlinburg to the Biltmore or maybe the opposite direction, it was so scary, we have no mountains in SE Texas and rarely snow. I said all that to say this, after watching your videos and our trips, I absolutely envy your lifestyle. It has my heart. I absolutely could have been a pioneer. This video was so enjoyable.

Great video, Tipper. You mentioned the picture you have in the cookbook of your dad making gravy. I love that. I wish I had one of my mom making biscuits. She didn’t cook much. My dad did most of the cooking because he enjoyed it and my mom didn’t. The one thing she did cook was the biscuits and they were the best! There is nothing like food country food, what my mom used to call “grub”.😀

What great instincts Jim has to keep encouraging you to memorialize these wonderful recipes and stories. I've followed chefs for years because I worked as one professionally for many years. When I think of current notable southern chefs, in the Carolinas in particular, you rank up with the likes of Vivian Howard and Ashley Christensen. Congratulations!
