In this tutorial you will learn to create an easy 3D sphere in PowerPoint. You will not only find a step by step demonstration of how to create the 3D Ball graphic from scratch but also see some useful applications of the graphic in business presentations.

More about this PowerPoint tutorial:
Let us first go to Auto shapes menu and select 'Oval' tool from 'Basic shapes'. Draw a circle while holding the 'Shift' tab. Change the fill color of the circle to a color of your choice and remove the outline.
Right click on this circle and go to 'Format shape' dialog box. Under '3D format' option choose the bevel preset called 'circle'. This is the only preset that will help you get a perfect 3D sphere. You need to apply the bevel to both 'Top' and 'Bottom' surfaces.
There is a simple calculation that helps you make a sphere using bevel preset. The calculation is -- for every inch of the diameter of the circle you need to add 36 pt to width and height of the bevel. For example, if your circle is 3 inches in diameter -- you need to add 108 pt to both width and height of 'circle bevel' preset. Apply the necessary width and height to create the sphere. When you add a nice shadow to the bottom of the sphere your diagram gets complete.
In this video tutorial you can see a number of applications of 3D sphere in PowerPoint. The diagram templates showcased in the tutorial are taken from our 'PowerPoint Charts and Diagram Templates Packs for CEOs'. The packs have more than 1600 PowerPoint Charts, Graphs, Diagrams and Graphics to help you visualize every business idea imaginable.
If you are a busy business presenter who doesn't have the time to create professional quality business graphics for your presentations you can take a look at our 'PowerPoint CEO packs'. All the templates are fully editable. Just choose the template that matches your thought. Replace the sample text with your own text and your business presentations get ready in no time.
Why waste time creating your diagrams from scratch, when you have such a high quality solution available off the shelf? You can follow the link given at the beginning of this description to browse through our diagram templates collection. To learn more such advanced tutorials in PowerPoint please visit our site

It looks only 3D from the front. Try to rotate it using 3D Rotation option and see what you get. I don't think calculating the diameter x 36 is correct. It should look similar from all the sides if rotated.
@PresentationProcess
@PresentationProcess 7 жыл бұрын
Dear Teacher, First off thanks a lot for watching the video. I truly appreciate your work. To answer your question - Since we apply the factor of 36 (height and width) for both the top and bottom bevels, the sphere will look the same even if you rotate it in any direction. However, if you apply the factor just to the top bevel, it would look like 3D sphere from the front. But, if you rotate it, it would show that it is a hemisphere. That is why I recommend that you apply the factor to both the top and bottom bevels. Trust that helps.

I might be doing something wrong but it is not working for me. I insert an Oval of 1x1" and then applied Top and Bottom Level (type "Circle") 36 Points and it only shows the sphere from front when rotated not from back. Can you please tell what I might be doing wrong?

@@PresentationProcess The factor 36 worked for me perfectly. Thank you so much. But why just 36 and not any other numbers? I think it's based on a cubic shape that has 6 sides with 6 units. Is that right? Thank you again for your excellent tutorials.

How do we go about to draw hemispheres?
@Cubiclite
@Cubiclite 5 жыл бұрын
In case someone is still wondering, you can actually leave either Top Bevel or Bottom Bevel set to No Bevel to get a hemisphere. You won't see the hemisphere until you apply some 3D rotation to see the object from its side or from an angle. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Not sure if you are still following these comments, but will try anyway. In this sphere tutorial, at the end, you add a shadow that appears as if the sphere is on the ground. I tried to reproduce with the default PP shadow tools but cannot get the shadow that close to the sphere (it won't allow any 'overlap' of the shadow and sphere. Do you have another tutorial on how to make the shadow effect look the way you did it? Please send copy of any response to ssutherland@spectrasensors.com
