Learn how to present a dog in the Conformation ring for the exam. Eliminate backing away from judges, fighting with the dog to stand still and preventing the Judge from doing what they need to do to find your dog!
You can see it every weekend at any dog show in the world. The dog is looking at the owner thinking what happened to all the fun we used to have and the owner is nervous, frustrated, glaring at their dog, and pulling them around the ring.
The owner is listening to all the advice from those in the breed, but aren’t they just the competition? The owner tries one approach and then another. The dog tires of the disrespect and lack of fun so tries other behaviors to satisfy its drives - bait surfing, refusing to gait, jumping, biting at the lead, aggression, frightened fear…
The owner loves their dog and hates getting harsh. They can see their dog who used to enjoy being with them begin hating going to shows. Somewhere in the owners brain they know there has to be a better way.
Once the owner stops looking for a specific task, like whether a dog will stand for an exam, and shifts to seeing respect and trust, they’re on the right track. Take pride in that. It's not easy to break a tradition so practiced. Respect, trust, and fun play! Communication is the bridge to where both dogs and their owners want to be, but that bridge needs to be strong before any other training begins. Now, stay the course!

Mr. Salas, I've got a question, please. What if we are to show a breed with a decorative beard like a miniature schnauzer? Won't this head straight position damage the beard we would like to nicely show?
