I have the 40 Watt 1x12. I run it through an original Peavey 5150 4x12 and it sounds amazing. I keep the speaker in the amp on too so it's got a huge sound even at bedroom levels. For the price, these are great amps. And... no one mentions the clean channel on the 40 Watt... you can go full-on jazz... it cleans up that well.

I bought the Iconic 40w Combo a couple of months ago. I was impressed by how extremely versatile it is so really there's something for everyone in this amp. This amp however is capable of dishing out obscene amounts of gain so ultimately it pans out towards heavy metal and modern high gain sounds. In short, it is a metalhead's dream amp. The OD-1/Green Channel however has enough gain to produce the sounds of classic metal. I played some Iron Maiden stuff on it and it sounded fantastic!

I took delivery of my 15w 5150 Iconic combo two days ago and I'm blown away. Like Ola, I am in love with Ch. 1 w/OD on. It DEFINITELY chugs! For thems who don't know, this amp was designed by amp guru James Brown who designed the original Peavey 5150 series with the Maestro himself back in the 80s. (He recently started working for EVH.) Ch. 1 basically approximates Eddie's Marshall years, while Ch. 2 is a tweaked Peavey 5150. It's referred to as a hydrid because, according to Mr. Brown, he put a transistor in the first of the three preamp tube slots to cut down on squealing, and another transistor was used for the phase inverter. Apparently, this prolongs the life of the other tubes. All I know is that this baby can CHUG. It has two speaker outputs with adjustable impedance settings so you can drive a full stack with it if you unplug the stock 10" speaker. I'm used to 12s myself, so I have a spare 1×12 cab with a nicely broken-in 70/Eighty that I'll be hooking up along with the stock 1×10 for a fuller sound. I anticipate dust piling up on my Marshall Origin 20 and my DSL cuz das gnu kid in town covers all the bases. One thing... It weighs 45 pounds.😢 I guess it has to be a heavy amp to produce such a heavy sound. Right? And the cleans are magnificent, too. ❤️ it! RIP EVH. You were a hero to me in 1978, and nothing has happened to change my opinion since then.

ATTENTION to the good folks @ EVH... I loved Edward since 1978 when my brother called me into his room and said, "Listen to this." He put on 'Eruption.' Whoa, dude... Then he played the whole album. (My brother and I grew up in a very musical home. Dad was a pro. He signed with Imperial Records in 1958. Guitars were a common sight in my house.) So, anyway... I have some trivial items which I wish to give to Wolfgang as a token of my love for his dad. Jan Van Halen, his wife, and two sons, Alex and Edward, emigrated to the USA on a Holland-America steamship called SS Ryndham. This was around 1960. In 1989, Ryndham was 'The Pride of Mississippi,' an aged cruiseship that sailed from Biloxi, MS into int'l waters and opened a casino. I sailed on it once. I have gambling tokens and other memorabilia, including a vintage postcard from this ship that I'd like to give Wolf. There's enough stuff for him to share with his uncle. I bought this stuff for my own collection but with hopes of one day sharing some of it with him. That's how highly I thought of his dad. Help me, y'all. Oh, and forgive me for saying this, but I thought his mom was TOTALLY HOT in that sitcom One Day At A Time. I was probably 14, around the same time Van Halen 1 came out. Hilarious, huh? I bought the EVH Eruption relic model last year. Finally! A version with the original Strat bridge. (I loathe Floyd Rose bridges.) I bought the EVH 5150 Iconic 15w combo last week, and I love it. I have a Marshall Origin 20 head for sale now if you're interested. 😅 Oh, that ship was later being towed to a scrap yard in India when it broke loose, rolled over, and sank in the Caribbean.

Follow up... In the early 90s, I worked for a car rental company at New Orleans Int'l Airport. I rented a car to a man from Nijmegen. That caught my attention. I said "Nijmegen, former home of Eddie Van Halen." The guy had never heard of him. I was, like, "WTF?!" Then I mentioned A Bridge Too Far, and he knew that. Crazy, huh? 1990, and he had never heard of EVH. "INCONCEIVABLE!"

Gotta go with a big no on these models. The shared EQ is a no-go for me. My prediction is that you will absolutely need an EQ pedal in the loop to play live with these. Beyond that I thought they sounded fantastic. And I don't know the guitarist, but he was fantastic. One of the best demo player choices I have seen/heard.

@@ghost_java35 they’re preset switches that change the gain and revoice, but are not footswitchable on the Iconic amps. The Boost footswitch on the bigger amps is a separate system that boosts the input gain about 8dB and adds more master volume with the adjustable Boost knob.

The 15 watter has an automatic noise gate on the Red/Burn mode. I have the amp and it does a good job of gating out unwanted noise and hiss.

Tubes died on my son’s 5150 60w Combo Amp after 2 months. Warranty only for 90 days on tubes. $249 to repair a $1200 amp after only 2 months of use is quite disappointing (I’m using my nice words here).

ABSOLUTELY. I've loved the VH1 version of Frankenstein since first hearing the album in 1978. I'd have bought the EVH/FMIC version years ago, but I DETEST the Floyd Rose vibrato rig. Luckily, they released a "relic" version with the Fender vibrato. I bought that last Christmas. I'd buy a Wolfgang tomorrow if they offered it with either a Fender vibrato or as a hardtail. Buttennyweigh, this amp kicks some serious booty. I anticipate selling a couple of my Marshalls to offset the cost.

Only thing I dont like are the knobs on top of the Amp... I play club gigs with amp propped back. Its very hard to see the knobs and even reach them....:( And I would have rather Wolfgang Van Halen Demoing amp... Would have ment more and solidified his spirit of him and his Dad's connection to EVH.

I bought the 5150 1X10 15w amp. Clean sound good, dirty sound bad. Too much bass, removed the back speaker cover. A cheap small voice coil 16ohm speaker probably made in China. Installed a Jenson Mod Greenback speaker 4ohms 50watt, 2 inch voice coil. Sounds much better. And leave the speaker cover off .
