I used to work for Chase, i remember driving these like it was yesterday. I’m still on the buses after all these years. But It’s not the same. Too many electronics, and so many break downs. Where as I don’t ever think I ever had a breakdown when I drove nationals! Old but Gold 👌👌 miss those days

Excellent. I do like a National. I'm old enough to remember Rushden garage having new ones in the 1970s. Great video as always 👍

You should never rev a cold engine like that. However you drive it like you should nice and gentle on the gearbox
@crazyleyland51069 ай бұрын
Give at least 30 seconds after start up before revving, to let the lubricating oil get to all the right places. Particularly for a turbocharged engine. So a bus driver told me, back in the 80s.
@iankp59017 ай бұрын
And with the nationals never switch them straight off but let them tick over for a while we were instructed
@cidertom51407 ай бұрын
@@iankp5901 I know people that do it with cars too it’s fo bring the temperature down on the turbo and engine. Some run for 5 mins before turning off

I believe the way they were built is. Usually in the UK, our buses have a stout chassis, with the bodywork then built on top. But the Leyland National was "ring framed," with, in effect no chassis, and a lot of the strength in the roof. The engine is completely different, most British buses of this era had 6 cylinder inline engines, horizontal or vertical. The Leyland National's was more compact and high revving than the other types. Very few V shaped bus engines in the UK.

BMAC look good on an MCW, not on this. At least it hasn't had a different engine transplant. This one sounds pourous.

I really like the noise, but even back in the 80s, I didn't like the pollution. Some National lovers might like clag, but I think preservationists should try to keep the clag down.
