Good Gracious, these trains are breathtaking!! They pass by the seconds... I´ve never seen anything like this on film. It taught me how dramatic fast speed is. THANK YOU WERRRY MUCH!!!

It’s like 1960s all over again with mainline steam locomotives whizzing through Penrith at very high speed

Ok, that’s it, I’ve found the perfect steam video. I’ve always loved the shots at Penrith, but that compilation is just fantastic! Thanks for putting this one together David, definitely my favourite so far. Cheers Tony

What an excellent compilation, David, and very clear shots... actually incredibly clear, given the speed! I liked the extra perspective of the on-board sequences. Kind regards, Bob.

What an amzing compilation! Fantastic viewing... with just a little imagination, remove the OLE, go into b/w images and this compilation could be a typical day at Penrith from the 50s which Bishop Treacy would recognise; bar the odd LNER interloper (!) perhaps on diversion over the Eden Valley line, Penrith to Darlington..... Thanks for editing and publishing this film, very much appreciated.

Many thanks Nige, the curve definitely adds to the drama, and such a good looking station, particularly before the footbridge went in.

Excellent video, David . . . no-one does it better than you . . . not even close. The pure artistry of your composition is mesmerizing . . . from an ex-pat railway artist and member of the Guild of Railway Artists who exhibits in London, New York and here in Vancouver.

Thank you very much again Roger, and apologies for the slow reply - KZbin notifications don't seem to be as reliable as they once were. That's very kind and lovely to read - I've looked you up and am looking forward to watching a virtual conversation you took part in; it makes quite a difference to know about your work and makes me appreciate your comments even more. Best wishes, David.

Many thanks Austin, somebody (a non enthusiast) once asked me why I didn't just go to the NRM if I wanted to see steam engines; hopefully performances like these would explain why!

What speeds that beauties reached in normal routes? Incredibly fast and steady runs

All of the engines in this video are allowed to run at 75 mph (except the black 5s, which are permitted to run at 60 mph). In steam days, they would have been allowed to do more although there has always been a slight speed restriction at Penrith. Many thanks for your comment.
